A few Paper Mario fans are making an INCREDIBLE mod for Sticker Star that is setting out to make the game significantly better. It looks amazing so far and I love the fact that the scrapped Chain Chomp partner and the S-Meter from the early builds are in this mod.

In Super Mario Strikers, there is an unused Dull Bones medic model based on the design from Paper Mario TTYD.

so apparently someone on TCRF pointed out that a strange skeletal head possibly resembling king mander seems to be present in the luigi newspaper screenshot for drybake stadium, so i had to reconstruct based on what i am seeing, and it appears that person may be correct

In an early screenshot of Super Paper Mario, a pipe resembling the Return Pipe can be seen outside Bestovius's house. There is also a Brick Block in place of the final game's Save Block, and two rows of coins in the space behind the steps instead of just one.

Characters that appear in the E3 2010 builds of Paper Mario: Sticker Star (including the trailer and screenshots). Many use their TTYD/SPM designs but there are a few new designs, mostly for species making their debut in the Paper Mario series.

The TTYD Remake actually has some remnants of Color Splash and Origami King's sprite style in the game. The characters in many pictures and posters in-game lack shading and have thinner black outlines; the only thing they are missing is the white outlines.

The TTYD Remake seemingly used several different art styles for characters throughout development, including CS/TOK-style sprites, CS/TOK-style sprites without the white outlines, shaded sprites with white outlines, and shaded sprites without the "paper-cutout" depth effect.

In the art gallery of the Paper Mario TTYD remake, there is a render of Koopie Koo's early design. This matches the Koopa Troopa design found in the original game's files, so this was likely from a similar point in development when it more closely resembled Paper Mario 64

In the Paper Mario TTYD Remake, interestingly, there are unused graphics of the unused badges from the original version of the game.

The Wanted Poster Boo's toy gun from thr TTYD Remake is a 2D version of the ones from the Western play from the Big Sho' Theater in Paper Mario: The Origami King.

Early concepts for Lord Crump, the X-Nauts, and Grodus from Paper Mario TTYD. Grodus's design looks drastically different from the final game, but he still has the staff.

In the January 2013 Wii U Nintendo Direct, Nintendo referenced Yoshi Kid from Paper Mario TTYD in an example post when showing details about Miiverse.

Interestingly, the mushrooms in the Paper Mario: Sticker Star E3 2010 trailer heavily resemble those in Super Mario Galaxy 2.

In the trailer and screenshots of the E3 2010 version of Paper Mario: Sticker Star, there is a ceiling on the fortress battle map meaning that some enemies, such as Swoops or Buzzy Beetles, may have been able to cling to the ceiling similar to Paper Mario 64 and TTYD.

Happy New Year! 2024 has been an excellent year for Paper Mario beta discoveries including Nintendo officially releasing TTYD concept art via the remake and the E3 2010 trailer finally being found after nearly 15 years. Hopefully, we’ll continue to make some interesting discoveries this year.

The beta design of the Album in Paper Mario: Sticker Star is almost identical to the design of the Tattle Log from TTYD

As seen in the concept art for Paper Mario: The Origami King, Captain T. Ode was originally planned to wear an eyepatch.

Early concepts for Hooktail from Paper Mario TTYD. According to the date on the sketches, Hooktail was designed around late 2002.

The Chain Chomp partner from the E3 2010 build neither used the design from TTYD/SPM nor the final Sticker Star design but it had elements from both.

The early origami Swoop design more closely resembled the design and colors of the Swoops from the previous five Paper Mario games. The final design is simplified and uses the colors from mainline Mario games (64DS onward).

In Paper Mario: Sticker Star, there was a planned sewer area in Decalburg that would've contained pipes leading to each area of the game similar to PM64 and TTYD. This is suggested by early battle maps labeled as "Pipe Maze" and collision objects named "a_w1" through "a_w8".

In Paper Mario: Sticker Star, the "A" Button icon (to signal an action command) was originally meant to appear in battles as it did in 64 and TTYD. In the files, there are sprites of two differently-styled "A" button icons and there's a screenshot on the Newspaper thing.

Despite the fact that the development for Paper Mario 64 didn't start until around late 1996-early 1997, ideas for a Super Mario RPG sequel were discussed as early as 1995 and it was announced in 1996 when Nintendo posted a recruitment flyer and added the game to their schedule.

In the Paper Mario TTYD Remake, most of the status effects got completely new symbols including POW-Down which was unused in both the original game and the remake.

At E3 2010, Nintendo revealed a Paper Mario game for the 3DS which would later become Paper Mario: Sticker Star. This build of the game was drastically different from the final release as it used the TTYD art style, had a Chain Chomp partner, a Monty Mole boss, along with many other differences.

In the concept art of the Paper Mario TTYD Remake, in the Shadow Queen room specifically, Mario has a similar design to his PM64-styled early TTYD design that was found in the files of the original game. Interestingly, his proportions are closer to his final design.
