UWS Open Hearts held a park party for housed & unhoused families. There were games, crafts, snacks & more! Kids received clothing and school supplies, while adults took home personal hygiene items. We're grateful to our volunteers who supported their unhoused neighbors & made this event happen.

For the past 3 years, Bronx Open Hearts has supported Just Home, a supportive housing project planned for Morris Park. Just Home will provide housing to formerly incarcerated New Yorkers with complex medical needs. The Fortune Society will provide on-site supportive services.

Wednesday, 9/17, 3-4pm, Open Hearts will host another virtual Homelessness: Learning From Experience session. These discussions are an opportunity for unhoused neighbors to share their stories. They’re also a great place for our volunteers to learn from lived experience. RSVP at the link.

Since May, our Midtown chapter has been running a monthly baby supply drive at a shelter in Midtown West. It’s a great way to provide regular support for neighbors in shelter. If you’d like to help out next month, email [email protected].

After packing fifty care kits for homeless neighbors, our Lower Manhattan chapter distributed them at the Battery Park City Library. We’re excited to have more events like this in the future!

In mid-August, our Upper West Side chapter organized a street care kit packing and distribution event, which doubled as an opportunity for community members to learn about supportive housing projects coming to the neighborhood.

On 8/29 from 3-5pm, Brooklyn Open Hearts is running a beading workshop at a shelter in south-central Brooklyn. If you’re interested in meeting your neighbors and trying your hand at jewelry-making, email [email protected]. Location received upon RSVP.

In early August, our Brooklyn chapter organized a free store where shoppers were able to pick up everything from clothing to basic hygiene supplies. Kids even had their own activity table, snacks, and the ability to get school supplies.
