With Sidetracked, many details came about very intentionally to expose things about certain characters, but they all slowly trickled in over time rather than each character being solidified from the start. #PretendPanel

If I didn’t find little ways to enjoy myself on occasion despite the Seemingly Endless Horrors, I think would give up on life completely. I have people who rely on me, so I can’t give up. I don’t know how to explain how it works for me. 😅 I have aphantasia, so I don’t really *visualize* my story. But a lot of scenes play out in snapshots like animatics or thumbnail storyboards in my head, and I generally have a clear idea as to how scenes should be written. #PretendPanel

sorry for all the Ice Monroe posting lately;;; I’m finally updating the larger print editions of books 1-3 to reflect whatever minor edits I made in the ebooks & KDP paperbacks last year, so I’m rereading while formatting… Reliving Jayde & Ice’s dating era is painful in a way I really enjoy. 😅

idk how apparent it is to someone reading Sidetracked Part 1 for the very first time because the story is filtered through Jayde’s rose-tinted glasses & desperate optimism, but omg Ice really is the fucking worst the entire time they’re together in this book

They exist in my mind at all stages of development at all times. Sidetracked is DONE, but I still think about the MCs as children/teens years before the story began, at random points during the actual story, during the healing stage right after the end, and even years into the future. I love them 🥲

Most of the characters who attend the beach bonfire party in Afterglow are probably present during the Music@thePark scene in Sidetracked Part 1, as part of the group Carmen is with. If Jayde hadn’t been so insistent on hanging out with Ice the whole time, she could’ve met Matthew & Cassidy early 🥲

He may be a minor character in Jayde POV Sidetracked, but I hope it comes through in the narrative that Smoke is a certified Ice hater.

I’m so bad at/averse to writing ambition that Night is probably the most ambitious of the 4 Sidetracked MCs, and she puts all of her desires on the back burner in favor of catering to the absolute shithead that is Ice Monroe Of all my characters, Gottfried is the most ambitious (& also most evil)
