Soooo, way back in the day, during the original iteration of CinemaSchminema, my buddy, Eric Undead, and I used to do a thing called He Said/She Said (which is exactly what it sounds like). For old times’ sake, we’re bringing it back to review “Fountaine and the Vengeful Nun Who Wouldn’t Die.”

If you like films that aren’t afraid to go to some really fucking weird places, then “All You Need Is Death” is definitely the movie for you. It takes folk horror to a new level by not being afraid of venturing into totally out there places and is well worth the watch.

“Black Circle” is an intriguing slow-burn of a horror film that won’t leave you afraid to turn the lights off at night, but it might make you reconsider whether your shadow is moving with you or on its own.

In summary, I hated nearly everything about “Obayifo Project.” Unless you enjoy watching terrible camerawork and the worst person ever be the main character, you might want to avoid this one.

If you enjoy faux documentaries and the evolution of conspiracy theories, then “The Conspiracy” is definitely for you. While the ending is a bit blah, the film overall is wonderfully fun and intriguing.

“Souls Chapel” is a decent-looking film with some good ideas, but the story doesn’t make much sense, and the superfluous characters really pull the whole thing down. But if horror westerns featuring the occult are your thing, you might enjoy it.

I kind of like the idea of a strange Old West town that makes no sense and might kill you, but there’s gotta be a better way to do that than how it was done in “Sundown.”

“The Tokoloshe” isn’t a bad film, but it definitely could have been better if it had settled on what kind of horror flick it wanted to be. If you’re looking for something scary, this might not be for you, but if you like light horror, you might enjoy this one.

Anyway, “Saloum” is a wonderful film that spans a variety of genres and manages to blend them into something that’s not only cohesive but also incredibly entertaining (and a little heartbreaking).

Welcome to Wednesday Short Shorts, where I catch up on the plethora of short films I’m trying to get through! Today, we have “The Armoire.”

“Everyone Will Burn” is an absolutely wild ride that begins almost the moment the film does. It just keeps ramping up the crazy and the tension, until it all explodes in the most delightful way.

Overall, “Delirium” isn’t a bad film, but it isn’t very memorable, either. If you enjoy quiet horror, this might totally be your jam, though.

“Written in the Light” felt too much like the filmmakers weren’t sure how to counteract how potentially triggering this could be, as the film focused more on the disordered eating itself, rather than the recovery process and how one climbs back out of that pit.

Welcome to Wednesday Short Shorts, where I catch up on the plethora of short films I’m trying to get through! Today, we have “Closing Time.”

“I Know Exactly How You Die” is a fun horror film that’s a little bit different from the norm and worth a watch. It’s just gory enough (but not too over-the-top), deals with vital issues, and offers up some female characters who aren’t just there to be victims.

I highly recommend avoiding this one and going with another bunny- or Easter-related horror flick this weekend. Check out “Easter Bloody Easter” instead; it’s actually pretty decent.

There are definitely better Easter horror films out there — and ones with originality — but if you can’t manage to find one of those, “Easter Bunny Massacre: The Bloody Trail” isn’t the most terrible film you’ll ever sit through.

Welcome to Wednesday Short Shorts, where I catch up on the plethora of short films I’m trying to get through! Today, we have “The Fort.”

If you enjoy watching people in fatigues traipse around the woods and occasionally die, you might dig “Musudan,” but otherwise, this film is definitely one to skip.

Even with a longer runtime, “The Demon Detective” was interesting enough that I wasn’t tempted to pick up a book or something while it was on (but not interesting enough to necessarily care what happened to the characters).

“Fugentango” is a fascinating glimpse into an aspect of someone’s mental illness and all it contains, that also manages to veer off a bit into some light comedy. It’s definitely a fun little watch, so check it out if you get a chance.

“Let Dan Go” is a brief and intimate glimpse into the lives of people who have tragically lost a loved one and the ways they handle that. Although sad, it also offers hope that grief can not only be survived but can make one stronger, making it an enjoyable watch.

I definitely wouldn’t want to watch any more of this series if it ever came out. There are absolutely far better uses of your time than watching “The Red Book Ritual: Gates of Hell” or the first film in the series.

Overall, “The Red Book Ritual” is a low-budget entry into the horror anthology genre that only barely counts as horror and is more boring than anything else.

“Vampire Clay” is incredibly silly, but enjoyable.

“House of Haunted Pancakes” has pretty good production quality, but that can’t save it from the dullness of everything else.

“Für Elise” is probably best summed up as misplaced passion and endings.

Welcome to Wednesday Short Shorts, where I catch up on the plethora of short films I’m trying to get through! Today, we have “Tom Is Suffering,” the next-to-last film in the “Baleful” series.

“Baskin” didn’t deliver quite what I was expecting from it, but it delivered enough bloody mayhem and excellent cinematography that the lack of much else is tolerable. If nothing else, it makes for an enjoyable entry into the vibes-based genre of horror.

“Jallikattu” definitely won’t be a film everyone enjoys, but if you let it, the film can take you on quite the journey through what lies beneath the surface of nearly every community, no matter how well they usually come together.

Welcome to Wednesday Short Shorts, where I catch up on the plethora of short films I’m trying to get through! Today, we have “A Failed Marriage,” the fifth film in the “Baleful” series.

“Ma Da: The Drowning Spirit” may not be the best movie for those seeking horror, as it falls more into the drama genre, specifically family drama, but it’s a fascinating look at Vietnamese folklore and culture.

I’m honestly not entirely sure that I’m happy to have watched “A Record of Sweet Murder.” However, as far as filmmaking goes, it isn’t a bad film. You just need a really strong constitution to sit through parts of it.

Welcome to Wednesday Short Shorts, where I catch up on the plethora of short films I’m trying to get through! Today, we have “I Don’t Know What Happened,” the fourth film in the “Baleful” series.

“Immanence” isn’t a bad watch, it’s just not anything that hasn’t been done before (and better). Adding on a kind of cop-out ending doesn’t help matters, either. But if you like religious horror or even just sci-fi, this one isn’t a terrible film to sit through.

“Thorns” had a super-interesting concept with the whole religion + space thing that was clearly heavily inspired by “Hellraiser” and “Event Horizon,” but the whole thing was so bland and boring, so poorly acted, and so nonsensical, that watching it is a chore.

Welcome to Wednesday Short Shorts, where I catch up on the plethora of short films I’m trying to get through! Today, we have “Martin’s Memory,” the third film in the “Baleful” series.

“Skinamarink” is an intriguing and sometimes haunting film that takes childhood fears and turns them into a cacophony of jarring images and sounds. It’s far too long, in my opinion, and will leave you with more questions than answers, but it’s definitely worth a watch.

“Possum” might not be for everyone, but the slowly creeping sense of unease and dread the film leaves you with makes it more than worth the watch (as does the marionette from the depths of hell).

“Late Night with the Devil” is hands down one of the better films I’ve seen lately, and definitely one I’m going to be thinking about for a while.

Overall, “The Ceremony Is About to Begin” felt like it could have been so much better and truly unique, and for some reason, simply decided not to be.

Welcome to Wednesday Short Shorts, where I catch up on the plethora of short films I’m trying to get through! Today, we have “Eddie Has a Problem,” the first film in the “Baleful” series.

“The Notorious Finster” is not a film I’d ever watch again. It’s a long, slow trudge through the lives of a bunch of random people who just happen to be in the vicinity of a serial killer, and there’s truly not much that’s interesting about it.

“All Alone Together” is an amazingly well-done film about the ways mental illness creeps up on you and how creative endeavors can be both a lifesaver and a nightmare to endure. It’s easily my favorite film from 2025.
