For those (like me) who missed this yesterday

This evening we join with a dozen other Catholic parishes and organizations to host outdoor stations of the cross in solidarity with our immigrant neighbors at Washburn Fair Oaks Park. Gather at 6:00 pm. We walk the stations beginning at 6:30.

And if you ever thought that you'd like to be part of the fish dinner magic, you can stop by tomorrow and pick up a 90 minute shift in the dining room and get a free dinner (which also lets you skip the wait to buy tickets).

I was convinced I'd be the oldest and possibly the malest person here. I'm not sure I'm either. (Like, I almost didn't buy a ticket because I was worried that people would find my presence creepy)

I was part of the crew that meticulously counted these goldfish. I didn't even eat any.

Despite being a professional church worker, I tend to be skeptical of "signs from God." But. At our staff meeting, we discussed what the prize should be for our goldfish guessing contest. The answer we came up with was pretty blah. And then on my way back to my office, I saw this:

Pancake Day wasn't really a thing in my Irish-American family, but as an adult I went to a Shrove Tuesday dinner at a colleague's church that practiced a sustainable pancake harvest, and while I applaud their responsible stewardship, it was honestly kinda sad.

Happy first day of ice cream season to all who celebrate. I am aware that photos help drive engagement, but I did not think to take a picture of my ice cream cone before I ate it, so enjoy a picture of my finished ice cream cone.

The thing about this is...they had a fish dinner in December, decided that it worked, and then proceeded to hold fish dinners *all six Fridays* during their first year. Anyway, come see me if you can. I'll primarily be working with our youth volunteers to make sure they have everything they need.

St. Albert the Great is hosting tomorrow night's vigil for human dignity, which is being organized by a coalition of Catholic churches around the metro area. I invite you to join us (especially if you're Catholic, but anyone who can tolerate a Hail Mary is welcome).

Thank you to everyone who supported Minneapolis school families last week. Your donations allowed us to buy toilet paper, laundry detergent, potatoes, black beans, and onions for 60 families. These went out along with produce, meat, dairy, and hygiene donations from other sources.

Someone donated this to the food shelf, and never have I been more tempted to walk off with something from the bin. (I did not! I only took it out to photograph)

Twin Cities, I think some of you have posted about groups that are doing food delivery for neighbors who can't leave their home due to ICE. Could you please re-share those? (Or share new ones). Some people at my church would like to support these efforts.

I read this skeet before putting on any music, and I really thought about trying to come up with something to set the tone for the year. But hours later and needing something to listen to while shoveling, I gotta admit that I'm in the mood for some Halsey, so screw it, we're starting with Gasoline.

It was always supposed to be temporary, but I'm starting to wonder

I am a big fan of the guisados at El Burrito Mercado, and I know that costs are continuing to rise... but this price seems steep to me.

I made my annual work trip to the Catholic Charities Distribution Center, which means I got lunch at El Burrito Mercado. Except I arrived early, and they were still serving breakfast. At first I was disappointed, but this breakfast was fire.

Do I have anyone in my network who would feel qualified and comfortable leading safety lessons for children on keeping themselves safe from abuse? Paid, and we can provide the curriculum or you can bring your own if it meets our requirements. Minneapolis.

Just used the phrase "at your earliest convenience," which (1) yes, it makes me groan too, but (2) this is how you can tell I've lost every last shred of patience.

To my Catholic Twin Cities friends (or anyone else who's interested!), join us for a Rosary in public witness for immigrants this Sunday at 4:15 on the steps of the cathedral.

In the spirit of ecumenical understanding, I took the Anglican quiz thingy. I feel like I'm allowed; I've at various times spent about five years of my life associated with it in one way or another, although I was never received into it. In any case, these results seem about right.

Precisely 365 days to the minute later, and fourteen so far, despite the kind of dreary weather. And the teens are not having to carry the load by themselves.

A helicopter at a neighborhood No Kings protest feels new, though perhaps it's because there's no big protest at the capitol. (Not new for Minnesota protests in general, but new compared to the last two No Kings).

St. Albert has money for school supplies available for teachers and will be randomly choosing nine teachers this Friday. I say "randomly," though my understanding is that at this point we still don't have enough requests to use up our budget.

Agate is opening a new building with apartments and shelter space and are having a silent auction to raise funds. One of the baskets includes handmade items, a gift card from @moonpalacebooks.bsky.social and signed copies of @naomikritzer.bsky.social's Catnet novels. Bids close Thursday at 4:45pm.

My parish doesn't post that much, and then mostly about public events. But I asked nicely, and they agreed to write about faith formation. Because I know there are people on here who still feel connected to the church even as they are frustrated by it. And I think St. Albert could be a good fit.

In what for us qualifies as being unusually current on pop culture, we watched KPop Demon Hunters last night. I was of course expecting to love Derpy, and I was delighted by both him and Sussie. Given Derpy's smash success, I was surprised how small a role they played.

This should be a great concert. Mark is one of our cantors and is a phenomenal vocalist. Kiegan is an excellent cellist. I've not heard Ben play, though I would expect that he is similarly talented, and he will get to play on our superb Steinway.

The sun smells beautiful tonight.
