FREE EVENT TOMORROW - and we’ll be there! The first ever Buxton Roman Festival is happening tomorrow, Saturday 5 April, 10am-4:30pm at The Assembly Room and Pump Room. It’s being run by Buxton Crescent Heritage Trust and will celebrate how the rich Roman heritage helped shaped the town’s history.

Staffordshire Archaeology Day is a free conference being held at the end of the month – and there are still tickets available! It'll be a fascinating event, covering subjects from heritage crime to Bronze Age metalwork. There’s also a café and attendees will be able to wander the museum too.

Last week our Senior Palaeoenvironmental Officer attended a wood identification course held annually at Kew Gardens in London. During this course, Emma was able to learn new techniques on how to sample large timbers alongside refining her current wood identification skills.

This week, our Head of Specialist Services, Kim, presented a paper as part of a conference run by Historic Environment Scotland - Archaeological Geophysics in Scotland: recent work and future directions.
