While I did enjoy a lot about this week’s #StarfleetAcademy, it felt very much like two episodes awkwardly mixed together. Here were two plots, a drama that needed more fleshing out and a hijinks friend bonding story with insufficient hijinks. This is one of the reasons we need longer seasons

I really love Starfleet Academy’s treatment of the Klingon culture. It’s reminiscent of the way culture isn’t linear but moves in spirals. Jay-den sees myths and language where Worf saw facts and fundamentals. Ideas iterate and evolve while retaining the same shape. Very thoughtful world building

I don’t know what I was expecting but I absolutely loved the first episodes of Starfleet Academy. I think they did a good job of combining Star Trek with the young adult genre. Loved all the new characters and seeing old friends in the Doctor and Reno. The body diversity is great to see.
