SFF mourns the loss of Rita Semel, founder and past chair of the San Francisco Interfaith Council. Rita was instrumental in the early days of SFF and in the creation of SFF’s FAITHS (Foundation Alliance with Interfaith to Heal Society) program, recognized for strengthening faith-based orgs.

This Farmworkers’ Day, we honor California’s immigrant farmworking communities and their enduring fight for dignity, fair wages, and safer working conditions. We are grateful for their leadership in feeding our communities, strengthening our local economies, and advancing justice.

Young leaders—especially youth of color—are driving change on critical issues. At “The Boldest Among Us” in Oakland’s Fruitvale, SFF CEO Fred Blackwell joined partners to discuss investing in youth. We look forward to exploring ways to support the next generation of changemakers.

Building power requires holding people accountable for their harmful actions. While we cannot rewrite history, we can certainly learn from it. As the fight for equity and civil rights continues, we draw inspiration from Dolores Huerta when we say, sí se puede!

As an organization, we’re working towards building an equitable, thriving Bay Area. This work is inspired, in part, by the legacy of the United Farm Workers movement, which was built on the collaborative efforts of Mexican and Filipino immigrant farmworkers.

We stand in solidarity with Dolores Huerta, Ana Murguia, and Debra Rojas, the brave survivors who shared their harrowing stories of sexual assault. In light of this week’s news, we remain committed to believing survivors and supporting them in the pursuit of justice.
