My office presented our first proclamation this week in celebration of Filipino American Heritage Month! As San José's first Filipino American councilmember, it was my honor to celebrate the contributions of San José's FilAm community and to be a small piece of that history.

My team and I spent Saturday w/the Japantown Community Congress, having great conversations about the collaborative work these local leaders do in maintaining one of our cultural treasures. Then we took a neighborhood tour, led by Japantown Business Association Vice President Jim Nagreda. (1/2)

Last night I had the honor of celebrating my very first Mexican Flag Raising as your Councilmember! This celebration wasn’t just about Mexico’s independence. We recognized the contributions the Mexican community has made to the heart and soul of San José. ¡Que viva México, y que viva San José! 🇲🇽

Last summer, I visited Toronto alongside a cohort of young leaders from across the country. One was based in Georgia and working to bring the first inclusive playground to the city of Macon. All the way out in Georgia, he had heard about our Rotary PlayGarden here in San José. (1/2)

The Downtown Streets Team helped our unhoused neighbors rebuild their lives while keeping our neighborhoods and business corridors clean and welcoming. This is a tremendous loss for our city.

I’m proud that not only are we the safest big city in the country, but when you look at the data more granularly, we are in the top 10 best-performing cities across every metric measured. Considering the unique resource constraints facing our city, this is a big accomplishment.

It shouldn't have come to this. We should make property owners aware of the requirements of operating in a historic property. Celebrating the unveiling of Romance by Danny Hanson was a great way to end the week! It brought together so many things that I love: queer joy, vibrant public spaces, & our community coming together to create something beautiful. I’ll take pride in my part of this creation every time I walk by. 🎨

We need to bring more people downtown and fuel the economic heart of our city, but we can’t rely on pre-pandemic norms to do it. That’s why I’m focused on getting more housing built. By building more housing downtown, we support local businesses by providing more regular customers.

Last night, the Planning Commission presented me with a commendation from the Department of Planning, Building, and Code Enforcement for my service before being elected to City Council. Serving on the Planning Commission was an immense privilege and I’m humbled by their recognition. (1/2)
