An Bord Pleanála orders opening of Galway Ring Road plan to new public input as additional information provided by council is “significant”
The national planning board has written to Galway County Council to inform them that they must open the project up to further public consultation because significant information was not previously made available for public comment. Attempts to build a second ring road in Galway have been a decades-long saga. The planning board had given the project the green light, but after three judicial reviews, the High Court in 2023 ordered An Bord Pleanála to reassess the project, stating that the Government's Climate Action Plan had not been fully considered in its determination on the road.
