I like this bit from my WIP Scout's Arrival. In this scene, our vampire pop star hero, Scout, is drinking blood from her human handler, Jay. I like it because it's a pretty good illustration of how I handle this kind of thing in this particular story. It's very grounded.

I saw a post (and have since lost it) asking "how do you know if your book is horror or not?" and I had to think about that for a second. I always have maintained that I write horror, but I really write more like dramas with some horror elements. But rarely am I trying to evoke fear or terror.

I miss buying comic books. I just never read them. I'd buy them, then look at the stack of unread comics and get overwhelmed. Then one day I'd read one, and go "Oh, I forgot I love this" and then I'd read two and then I'd go to the comic book store and buy more comics and then get overwhelmed again.

I posted some of my pencil drawings on my website. I realized today I don't really have any main gallery or anything with my artwork. I don't think about my art a lot. I do it, but I don't really think of myself as an artist. I'm a writer with a drawing hobby.

it's weird how when Bjork comes on my body goes through an American Werewolf in London style transformation into some kind of herky jerky dancing goblin creature. remember in the 80s when there were movies about old people? Like, Hume Cronyn and Jessica Tandy were running around making movies left and right. Cocoon and Batteries Not Included and Driving Miss Daisy. It was an elderly renaissance!

I miss when I felt good about Taylor Swift. I was fully on board for a long while and now that things are weird I just kinda feel sad when I hear her.

David Duchovny played a transgender woman, Denise, on Twin Peaks in 1990 and when greeting Cooper, the show's protagonist, she says, "I prefer Denise, if you don't mind" and Cooper responds with "OK" and her identity is settled within a couple seconds and was a non-issue, 36 years ago.

My dad was a park ranger. He was one, until last year, when his department was DOGEd and now has been dismantled. I don't really have much of a dialogue with him but I can't imagine how much all of this must kill him. Being a park ranger was really suited to him.

Lindsey Buckingham plays guitar too awesomely. Listening to Never Goin' Back Again is like a masterclass in how I'm never, ever, going to be able to do that. It's just a skill I don't and won't ever have. I'm at peace with it. But jesus, I don't know how anyone can do that. It's incredible.

listen. I loved the book Lord of the Flies. I thought it was right exactly my speed. That said, I definitely have no interest in watching a TV show of it. It's not exactly a fun story. Just a good one. I don't need like, 10 hours of it or something. A movie is already more than I want.

The new VERY hagriographic Michael Jackson biopic starring MJ's nephew is out at the end of the month. But back in 2004 an unauthorised and EQUALLY flattering biopic was made in Canada. Here is a clip and I promise you have NO idea where it's going. I haven't done a single edit here.

I talk a lot about the impact Stephen King had on my love for reading and how in a lot of ways, he made up a formidable part of my childhood. But sometimes I forget that Alan Dean Foster also played a big part in that. I read so many of his books. Splinter of the Mind's Eye was huge.
