Losing My Dog:-Getting Through It I’ll pen this now, as it’s the last twenty four hours before the little lad crosses the bar. We will do it here at home and it’s going to cost a fortune but, I owe him that. The first thing is put them before you. You’ll know when it’s time /1

Messy burgers and mess deck bants. Both watches and dwarf cleaners. Riding a cherry picker drunk and flour curry. Just your average day in Pompey dockyard.

In the 1990’s the Royal Navy took a perfectly good system of specialist branches in operations, communications and weapons engineering, and combined them in a catastrophic experiment that arguably gutted professionalism. Learn about it and more here with Tom!

One from the archives here and a real favourite of mine. Signatory edition again. I think the official bottling strength has gone up from the 40% it used to be as well, and ofc both are non-chill filtered and no added colour.

My sort of experiment. A box containing core components to Black Tot rum which I’ll endeavour to give tasting notes on. If you like that sort of thing?

My best guess ME. Unless you’ve been at sea there it’s impossible to describe how difficult it will be to keep the Straits open. The SSM and FAC threat alone is enormous and there simply aren’t the surface assets in theatre to counter.

If I’d been in back then, and was happy with the very poor living conditions? I’d have had a TBD. They were the space shuttle of naval warfare, and they pushed engineering to the limits in the quest for speed.

I think it’s this hit:/ “From 250 Station to the Stern a large elongated hole (shewn in the accompanying illustration) was torn in the side plating Starboard between the Main and Middle Decks. The length of hole was some 20 ft. and the adjacent cabins were wrecked and flooded.” HMS Warspite 1916

In terms of Anti Submarine Warfare, Iceland is actually far more important than Greenland. Particularly if you don’t want Red Fleet SSBN’s sneaking up to the US Eastern seaboard. Rantings of a loon? Freudian slip maybe?

As we are no longer using names for countries, but are calling them what we perceive them to be like (Greenland is Ice Land) I move that the Kingdom Of Saudi Arabia be hence known as:- Sandy Camel Place

Really great YouTube Channel and this episode particularly interesting as it goes into marksmanship training for The Rifles. Having spent many a miserable day at Chilcomb or Longmoor as coach, couple of things stand out /1

HMS Blake (‘Snakey Blakey) Portsmouth 1979. Reputedly a good ship to serve on. Despite her losing a six inch and three inch mount aft and her looks being ruined by the addition of the hanger, she would be sorely missed in 1982.

Fast review Organic Lucido White wine. Nose-very very light. Citrus and vanilla. Not an awful lot going on in the glass. Palate:-Took a while to grow on me. There’s a bitterness that I think is pineapple. Lots of lemon. Vanilla. It’s got a lovely mouthfeel. There’s an almost malt background /1

Going as well as can be expected. Oil companies very wary of investing in the country due to poor state of infrastructure and security concerns. And now a reiteration of the 2019 warning for everyone to bug out despite the country being under US administration.

A personal low and possibly final straw was at anchor Plymouth Sound, at 0200 hrs, and being sent over the side in the Gemini in the wind and rain, to paint the boot topping by torchlight ready for day one BOST.

Why are warships grey and not black? Well once the Royal Navy had started to realise the peacetime paint scheme of buff funnels, white superstructure and black hulls whilst pretty, wasn’t exactly good for warfighting, it started experimenting on best colours/1

Given the uptick in USAF tanker ops in the region, and continuing strikes by US, French and RAF a/c, I think Iran is distracting us from an equally important event in the ME. Daesh and affiliates seem to be back in the game.

Always loved Victorian cruiser designs and particularly how they built into the hull and masts fighting positions for three and six pounder anti torpedo boat guns. However it did involve compromise/1

It’s legal to do this if ship is determined to be a Stateless vessel. If a nation , whose flag it was flying, confirmed it was not registered with the country, under UNCLOS the Navy of any country can board any stateless vessel for an inspection, and to seize it if they have reason to do so.
