Looking ahead - a storm system that was originally forecast to track well south of Maryland may track a little closer to home. The WJZ team is keeping an eye on a chance of wintry weather late Saturday.

Plan on cold weather and spotty flurries or light snow, but no accumulation through midnight. A quick burst of heavier snow is expected before sunrise.... which could amount to a dusting.

🚨 High wind alerts are in effect. Travel on both I-70 & I-68 could be impacted tomorrow & Tuesday. Driving on I-68 will be especially rough in Garrett County with accumulating snow & damaging winds. Whiteout conditions possible.

A wintry mix that is occurring along the I-70 corridor, Baltimore metro and northeast Maryland will taper off after 7AM. Cold rain farther south.

Early Friday morning will be dry across the Baltimore metro. Wintry mix increases from west, to east, late morning on into the afternoon.

The Westminster @UofMaryland Mesonet site dropped nearly 10° in 20 minutes as the front blew through. Wind gusted greater than 40 MPH with light rain. It’s Baltimore-bound. 12:59 p.m.

Small hail, graupel has been reported with showers moving through Washington County. These showers are tracking towards the Baltimore Metro. 12:15 p.m.

🚨 Leading edge of the final, and strongest, cold front is quickly moving through Maryland. Some graupel (soft hail) may mix in with brief heavy rain as the front blows through central Maryland and greater Baltimore.

Second cold front (and leading edge of cold, strong wind) has moved through Garrett County. University of Maryland Mesonet site in Bittinger is below freezing and has already gusted to 45 MPH.
