Lots of people will be thinking about holidays and festive activities but for those of you looking to the New Year. From the 8th of January we will be running a health and nature walk every Thursday at 1.30pm. Leaving from the Medical Practices on Niddrie Mains Road.

Great day with volunteers from NatWest and the local Friends of Group , helping to tidy up Campbell Park.

Thanks to Addiewell Nursery and St Thomas RC and Addiewell Primary Schools for their help planting more than 6000 bulbs to increase biodiversity and creating nature corridors along their local Wee Forest. @westlothiancouncil.bsky.social

We had our final Nordic walk at Lauriston Castle. We have loved teaching so many people the technique and leading walks in a wide variety of beautiful greenspaces in and around Edinburgh. We have heard from our walkers the health, social and nature connection benefits it provides

To celebrate #NationalTreeWeek, a team from Prysmian came out to plant trees in Gifford Community Woodland. They planted 120 native broadleaved trees, contributing to East Lothian's Climate Forest creation target of 2 million trees by 2031.

We had our final Team Nature Nordic and All Ability Wellbeing Walks session. We had a lovely walk up the Water of Leith towards Dean Village, spotted Herons, heard Dippers and learned about the historical Baxter family grain milling, which was prominent in the 17th century.

We had our final Redford Woods session with this fabulous group of volunteers. Over the past 4 years we have removed scores of litter bags and fly tipped items, planted 70 trees & 3000 spring bulbs, constructed 50 meters of dead hedge and maintained the paths.

We have finished our Autumn 25 programme, we will be back in February 26. One of the last events was a fantastic fungi walk, a huge thank you to Cameron for such an engaging walk.

Due to a lack of continued funding, we completed our final walk with our Redhall group. We thank each and every walker for turning up in all kinds of weather, making everyone feel welcome and for their adventurous spirit.

Thanks to the team from Centrica for coming along to Gypsy Brae to help replace some of the trees and to cut back the undergrowth.

We were absolutely delighted on Wednesday evening to have a FULL HOUSE of 21 people show up for our Ecology Talks about the Braid Burn in Inch Park. We heard from ecologist Milan about the Phase One Habitat Survey we commissioned him to carry out along the stretch of the Burn.

We discovered the true meaning of Nordic walking with a fantastic walk in the Pentland Hills Regional Park. Our poles helped provide grip in these challenging conditions and helped us to experience stunning winter views while exercising. Also spotted Greylag geese.

Join us in learning how to track animals in Inch Park this weekend with Nadine Andrews and as we delve into the magical world of fungi with Johanna Koen. Free, friendly and fun - all are welcome.

Redford Woods volunteers planted 600 Bluebell, Wood anemone and Daffodil bulbs generously given by the council's parks and greenspaces team. It has rained every time, but the team kept going and we couldn't be more proud of their hard work and dedication. Can't wait for spring.

A touch of frost greeted us on our latest Redhall walk, as winter arrives. But the sun shone brightly and gave us a great start to our week as we explored nature together.

Well done to these hardcore Nordic walkers who braved torrential rain for our walk. We were rewarded with a spectacular and very full Water of Leith in spate. We spotted a very soggy Heron, taking in the views above the fast flowing water. Well worth leaving the house for.

Feeling inspired by our recent Andy Goldsworthy exhibition visit, we had a fun natural art session with Stepping Stones this week, exploring the textures and patterns of leaves and flowers

A massive shout out and thanks to these hardy Redford Woods volunteers who came out for a bulb planting session, despite torrential rain. We planted around 200 bulbs, including Bluebells, Daffodils and Wood anemone. We hope these flowers will enhance the woods for all to enjoy.

What a beautiful day for a walk! Our Redhall walkers were invited to Tiphereth at Torphin to visit their pop-up cafe, woodworks and art made by people who receive support there. A wonderful experience and a great time had by all. Thanks for having us.

The woods at Sandys near to Craigmillar Castle Park look amazing all lit up as part of the community campfire event. It was great to see over 930 people come along.

Autumn just keeps on delivering! Our Nordic walkers were treated to beautiful colours in the trees and an array of interesting fungi on our latest walk at Heriot Watt. Such a pleasure to immerse ourselves in nature

We had fun in the Wee Forest at West Pilton Park, carrying out some monitoring on the positive impacts of trees. We measured the trees to give us an idea of their carbon storage and took a thermal comfort survey, helping us to understand how trees can offset climate change.

We were delighted to have over 90 residents coming along to an event in Craigmillar Castle Park, gathering their ideas and visions to help shape a project to engage people with woodlands.

More than 50 local residents joined us to plant their community orchard at the Old Prestonfield Bowling Green. We planted a total of 24 fruit trees including a variety of apples, pears and plum trees. some daffodils were also planted and apple juice made by participants.

Our latest Nordic walk was at Cammo Estate, where we were surrounded by fabulous autumnal colours in the trees. We enjoyed views over Edinburgh from the tower whilst catching up with each other for some exercise and good conversations

Our Redhall walkers took a really interesting walk in the Colinton Dell and focussed on some of the historical structures which can still be found. We visited the Redhall Doocot and two of the grottos which the Ladies of Redhall House would use for cover if it rained.

A big thank you to the team from WPP for all their efforts at Lauriston Castle Estate. It was fantastic to work with the them alongside the Friends of Lauriston Castle Estate to improve and maintain this fantastic greenspace.

ELGT are working with the Thriving greenspaces team to make improvements to 3 small parks in Leith. This includes Mill Lane, Junction Street and Dalmeny Street Parks. We are working with the The Royal Caledonian Horticultural Society to run community planting days in November.
