I know they’re “just calculators” or whatever but videos of people abusing robots or working them to death really bother me. Maybe I’ve just internalized too much sci-fi but it seems a fine line between abusing a robot and abusing a person.

AfterHours' most epic partner is Don's Club Tavern. If you want to know what real hospitality is all about, check out Don's. Make a lunch and put some more love into the world at Don's the first Monday of every month at 7pm. Tonight: uncertainty, the unknown, and what it has to do with faith.

it's that time of year where i can whip out this, the craziest ad of all time. what happens at the "climax" is so funny—i don't understand how the actor at that moment could have been directed sincerely by any person. other than maybe some total saboteur tim robinson type.

Just a friendly reminder as we go into the holidays: Folks don't have to explain to you why they don't drink. If you offer them a drink and they decline, don't ask them why. It's not your business. Just offer them something without alcohol to drink instead. And move on.

Relatedly, my take on why US elite culture has gone down the drain is that they're suffering from the same law enforcement neglect that a lot of high-crime underclass-coded neighborhoods do. Super rich ppl live in a low trust environ where they cannot trust their peers not to commit crimes vs them.

This is what you're actually looking at, btw. An exceptionally cool piece by David Wallace Haskins called Image Continuous. 3 sides are mirrors, but the 4th is this, a view of the sky framed by a reflection of the woods. It is ever changing, ever responsive to the conditions above & around the cube.

i’ve said this before and i remain convinced it’s true, the 2028 platform that would deliver obama 08 results is “i am gonna bring the hammer down on the corrupt self-dealing politicians and their rich friends and there are no sacred cows id give a pass”

Friendly reminder that dishwashers made after 1995 or so are so water and energy efficient that even if you ran them twice fully loaded it would still use less water than handwashing the same load. So many "green" things feel like sacrifices. Dishwashers are not one of them.

I don’t think rich people will leave NYC because it’s NYC, you know? It’s the A#1 city. There’s a “Second City” by definition because there’s NYC. Like where are you gonna go? Houston Texas? Paris? GTFO of here with that shit. If I’m NYC my message is, “I dare you mother fuckers to leave.”

Colorado voters passed universal free lunch for kids on Tuesday and I just wanted to take a moment to appreciate the genius of this ballot design. When I saw the number 300,000 next to the number 486 on my ballot I actually laughed out loud.

A colleague of mine had been case managing a formerly homeless man who needed to be in hospice care. The man died yesterday. Today the colleague was worrying generally about his client: relieved he was no longer suffering but anxious about how much peace the client may or may not have now.

I grew up in S. Dakota which established the second Monday in October as Native American Day in 1990(!). So the hubbub around Columbus and whether we should celebrate him has struck me as rather quaint.
