This is especially important in communities like ours always dancing between different publishing processes: MIP is not quite conf proceedings-driven, journals are often too slow (and offer more credential than visibility?). Special editions offer an interesting third path to publication!

A resounding success for the first #EuroMIP25, strong interest from participants to learn from each other on the whole spectrum of MIP research, all very strong signals that the community is in demand for the format and topic!

New work on FW just dropped! We look at corrective Frank-Wolfe, aka algorithms which optimize over a constrained set by alternating between computing a new vertex and optimizing over the convex hull of the vertices found so far

This is now out, we're super proud to have won the Land-Doig MIP competition prize for our algorithm for mixed-integer quadratic optimization!

Some folks in the (academic / corporate) US seem to have a hard time grasping how bad their situation is. Want to hide yourself from the news? Sure, many would do the same. But don't hide behind "no politics" rule when your gov collapes

The first European edition of the MIP workshop will be in Clermont-Ferrand, France this summer! Come for polytopes, stay for the second-order volcanoes!

Let me repeat a few points. 1) There are in France tenured research positions that do not have conditions of citizenship (at CNRS, INSERM, INRIA etc.). The deadline for 2025 has passed at CNRS and INSERM but is February 10 for INRIA. There will (normally) be positions in 2026 too.

Occasional reminder that there’s no, “it’s too late, its over” for anthropogenic climate change. Every molecule of CO2 that doesn’t go into the atmosphere makes a difference. Preventing 0.1 degree of warming makes a difference. Every bit of climate resilience we build together makes a difference.

I wrote yesterday that I'd make today's "advent of research" post focus on nonlinear eigenvalue problems. So let's get into it. What the heck is a nonlinear eigenvalue problem?

New preprint with @jannisku.bsky.social! We look at objective-robust optimization under the oracle model, and connect most approaches from the literature under a Frank-Wolfe algorithm. The additional spice is Nesterov smoothing which is particularly effective when the uncertainty budget is large.

Next week continues with the MINLP course, with an emphasis on generalized Benders for MI-convex problems. Students also have articles to read, analyze, and present to the whole group in January
