Here's a photo from my garden that I snapped exactly 7 years ago today. The blue green pigmentation is made by applying raw copper powder and oxidizing it in situ. The black and red are iron oxides applied dry rub. The sealant is shellac in alcohol, followed by a layer of wax.

Work in progress. I've been sculpting this face as a series going back at least four years. From, most recently, my custom gesso recipe. Notice the ten-circles layout method which I prefer.

Sharing a fresh #sculpting idea I just figured out. Sometimes, you need a sanding cylinder. I applied a generous layer of label adhesive glue to the backside of a small piece of sandpaper and let it dry. Then wrap the sandpaper around a wooden dowel.

I have been experimenting with a custom rotational mount for sculpting, using a discarded bowling ball and mounting the workpiece using an adhesive encaustic medium.

My studio right now.

Work in progress. A five inch face which I am currently sculpting, using a high build gesso recipe which I developed, made from PVOH and PVA with whiting and powdered mica.

I'm making a latex true rubber mold of a recent face I sculpted. The latex is in the small bowl. The cured rubber (which I pigmented) is built up in layers and is visible on the master, setting on a spinner. I typically thicken the latex using 'old style backing compound' from Douglas and Sturgess.

Here's a picture of my most recent sculpture, 10 1/2 inch across. Work in progress, not quite finished, but close.

I've been experimenting for more than a decade trying to invent the ideal high-build gesso for sculpting. I'm really happy with using polyvinyl alcohol as the binder, specifically PVA 4-98 dissolved in 180⁰F water at 15% concentration. Here's a video of a recent fresh batch of PVA👇

I loved the new #Superman movie and in celebration I just glued together a lampshade which I made from steam bent bamboo strips and laminated clippings from a 1975 comic book.

Here's a recent little face that I sculpted

I put out a couple dozen faces as #StreetArt in San Francisco's Mission District last weekend, this one in an alley parklet.

Last Sunday I installed about twenty benevolent faces, as acts of #StreetArt, in #Parklets and #gardens and #shrines around my neighborhood including inside this #LittleFreeLibrary. And today is #TagTuesday, so here is a photo.

Oak Gall #Ink is ancient, dating back to Pliny the Elder in Greece. While hiking I found some Oak Gall apples and thought to try out the Oak Gall Ink recipe I have seen in the Kremer Pigments traditional inks pamphlet. Here's a few photos, the recipe takes a week to mature. #DIYink

I have chosen to break the Eurocentric rectilinear framework my entire lifetime, even to the point of eschewing paper and pencils. I am guessing that the iconoclastic Piet Mondrian might agree with my anti-colonialist exploration of the purpose of art.
