Ended up at the Tate for a Picasso exhibition, liked that a painting reminded me of Picasso doing “MediEvil!” 😄 And then ended up in a real life Bone Temple. ☠️

No new original work to show these days (but still incredibly busy), so here’s a thread of out of context comic panels from my 2014-15 graphic novel series “Surface Tension.” Might do similar out of context threads from other books and Videogames that I’ve created or designed.

New pin badge… Kubrick’s “Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb” with “Fallout” crossover. It seemed fitting considering the current global/political climate.

Still mulling over how good I found the “28 Years Later” films. The reflective cinematic duology that we so needed for today’s unemphatic rage bait times.

As a Twin Peaks/Lynch fan it’s so weird to see a de-aged 1990 era Kyle MacLachlan running around in season 2 of “Fallout”. Along with the present day aged MacLachlan. Even weirder that both shows feature a main character called ‘Cooper’ and both perform a thumbs up as their signature gesture. 👍

Good grief, those words from that orange man baby are just beyond belief! FFS why can’t that orange moron just fuck off. The 2020s must surely be the worst decade for global stability and various crisis since WW2 and could get a whole lot worse if left to that idiot.

If you enjoyed the British horror/folk vibes of “28 Years Later” you might enjoy the graphic novel collection of my comic book series “Surface Tension” (2014) published by Titan Comics. The story of survivors inhabiting a British island during/after a global pandemic known as ‘the sea sickness.’

The patient is ready for surgery. Dante is about to go under the knife! As shown before, this once beautiful book from the 1870s is falling apart and rife with foxing (pos’ mould). So I am going to carefully cut away the engraved plates so that I can store them in a clean place.

God, Nia DaCosta is so fuckin cool! Different style than Boyle (surprisingly more gruesome) but fits perfectly in the world established. Boyle’s film was concerned with a perversion of nationalism death, while DaCosta is concerned with the perversion of religion and the mind.

Saw it. Loved it. Liked the first one too. Would be good to watch them back to back. No spoilers. Very violent, tense and lots of dong. But also very beautiful too, I even had a tear in my eye. Unabashedly British in tone, lore and references. Oh, and Ralph Fiennes really goes for it! 🫣🥳😈

Ooo! Just discovered that my copy of “Wildwood” that I bought 2ndhand, is in fact a rare 1st edition that included a seed paper leaf bookmark. I only just discovered the leaf tucked inside. These editions were limited to 500 copies! “Wildwood” is to be released as a Stopmotion film by Laika Studios.

Nice to see MediEvil sketches. 💀 Maybe this year I’ll return to doing some new MediEvil sketches myself in the style of the original concept art, I have an urge to break open my old coloured pencil sets once more.

Love these little vintage 1930s (90 year old) cigarette film star cards featuring two German film stars in self exile from Nazi Germany. Conrad Veidt (Cabinet of Dr Caligari/Hands of Orlac) and Brigette Helm (Metropolis/Alrauna). Both actors refused to appear in films made for the Nazi party.

Had a bit of a French New Wave cinema weekend. Bought a new hat to channel that 1960s auteur vibe. Gotta take the joy where you can on a cold dark and stormy weekend while remaining practically dressed! 😄

Just framed this beautiful old vintage 1974 theatrical film poster for “The Land that Time Forgot” (German version). I was captivated by this poster and its associated lobby cards as a kid and fell in love with the concept. It was this or the 1933 King Kong as my two favourite films growing up.

On a walk today along the misty river in Cambridge when I came across a closed up village postoffice with blacked out windows. I literally jumped in fright as I approached the door from the side to come face to face with the surprise of a full-size Wheeping Angel!!! The f*ckers properly got me! 😆

Art from over one hundred years ago in one week - classic literature engravings from the 1890s, 1950s film posters and pulp horror poster/cover art. Starting with a beaten up 1890 edition of Dante’s Visions of Hell that I bought from a book stall. Beautiful pressed ink engravings.

Remember… 2000AD did the whole satirical irradiated fallout wasteland scenario, complete with lone gunslinger recalling his prior life, first. The twist of who the ‘Dead Man’ gunslinger was blew my mind reading it back in 1990.

An issue we're seeing at all levels of university is that many students are simply refusing to do *anything*. They aren't reading the syllabus, aren't following assignment guidelines, aren't engaging with material, ignoring deadlines. And this might seem like old news, but it truly has ramped up.

With the cloud-flare outage it shows how many still use Twitter and that’s just a bit of a shame.

Going to watch GDT’s “Frankenstein” on the small-ish screen for the second time tonight now that it is on Netflix. Going to enjoy seeing all those costumes, models and props again after seeing them all for real yesterday.

Just a tiny selection of random cut out art elements from my “Coal Face - The Devil in the Smoke” book. I am going to be creating an animated ‘project’ using the hand drawn cut out pieces. I did something similar for Sony on “MediEvil” a few years ago but want to make something much better/refined.
