A4) Assuming it can't do my household chores - I'll say video again. So many times I've visualized a clip/scene to use in my lessons and I just can't find it. Lifelike, voice-synced video. Yes please.

A3) I just closed out my AVID 7 class with a "Declaration of My Identity" poem. Students said some beautiful things about themselves. (Which I then filmed and shared with parents.)

A2) I also like days where I intentionally plan too much. I let classes vote on which things we do. Always fun to have them come in the next day saying, "Why didn't we get to do X?" Well, democracy works like that.

A2) I do a Choose Your Own Adventure project every few weeks. Student pick from a huge menu of assignment options and topics. Some kids hate the freedom (at least at first) but others run with it from minute one. The key is to have genuinely unique options.

I do miss teaching Econ - glad I can still use this human capital lesson with my AVID kids! I love this one. Students play a game to determine their character then interview for a job as that character. Super fun! Full lesson plan included! (30/31)

Day 26 is one of my faves - Time Warp: The Explorers where students play out historical stories learning how difficult exploration was. I have students play in pairs and record their failures. It takes some effort to set up the first time, but it rocks!
