Cracking day! Kicked off with a Hawfinch in the garden, plus Red-Rumped Swallow and Hooded Crow at The Warren. Then on an evening drive round Sunk Island, spotted what I thought was a flash of Turtle Dove. Paul reversed the car and, luckily, it dropped back into the field briefly - nice year tick.

Swiiiiiiiiiift!!! A frustratingly brief glimpse over Vicar's Lane around 7pm, then thankfully managed to relocate it about 45 mins later feeding around the church in the fading light. #YearTick

What a smashing day. Kicked off by finding a Firecrest and Woodcock in the garden. Then had a Goldcrest land on my head in Easington Churchyard. Then found a Dusky Warbler. And then a Hume's Warbler. I never find anything! 🙃

There's a big ass plane doing crazy things! We've just been watching it from the window. It's coming up as a 'military or government' aircraft, and it's come from Brize Norton. But it looks like a normal passenger plane. Bizarre!

Sound up (excuse the washing machine in the background). The local gulls regularly use our flat roof as a cracking platform. I'd love to know how many crab shells and/or coconuts/monkey skulls are on our roof.

Thoroughly enjoyable evening at the Little Tern colony. Glorious weather, tons of birds, a stunning sunset, and a full moon over the sea. My soul is calm after a rough week. 😌

Dusted off the portable #NotMothTrap and took it down to the Tern hut this evening. Singles of Tarten Sheath and Whimsical Nigel, both FOY for me. The highlight, though, was a raucous flock of 17 Chocolate-banded Nipples. I also found a Swan under one of the egg trays. Which was unexpected.

Wow! A very exciting discovery by one of our wardens, Tate, during his afternoon shift today. This Little Tern was first ringed as a chick at the Beacon Ponds colony back in 2013. It was recaptured in Senegal last April and fitted with a green colour ring - HKL. 1/2

Terrible insomnia last night, but at least I got to watch these cuties through the thermal! A total of three hogs in the garden, with these two having a brief "huff-off" before parting ways. 🦔

The glorious weather has allowed us to carry out our first colony walkthrough of the season. An astonishing 91 Little Tern nests were counted, which is the highest count for the protection scheme (previous highest count of 70 in 1996). We're keeping everything crossed for a record-breaking season!

Releasing Boggle the Hog back into the garden this evening! She was almost a badger snack a few nights ago, but I accidentally startled the badger, causing him to lose his prize.... A midnight trip to the vets followed by a few days of recuperating at the local carer, and she's as good as new! 🦔
