#Septopolis 19 I'm going to be talking about the city proper + the area immediately around it. The city's economy is based around the port, where most of the trade with the rest of the world happens. That being said, the rest of the world is quite far away, so a lot of trade is domestic. 1/4

#Septopolis 18 There aren't a lot of these (the semi-regular destruction thing), but there is one I want to talk about, the pond. The pond is a pond, actually multiple ponds in a complex fed by water from a stream, with fountains, walkways, fish, and a mind-boggling variety of flowering- 1/3

#Septopolis 17 Wood. There are so many wooden buildings, especially the smaller ones because there is a lot of managed forest especially for this purpose. Even non wooden buildings use a lot of wood for roof structures, flooring, walls, etc. That being said, the climate is wet so they need- 1/5

#Septopolis 14 It has a fairly distinct food culture. It's got a pretty good supply of seafood and seaweed (being built around a harbour and all that), which is the signature flavour people associate with the city, especially if it's on the low end of hot spice. 1/3

#Septopolis 11 They all mostly speak one language. There are plenty of dialects though, and not all of them are as mutually intelligible as people like to believe. The writing system being a syllabary can be a help or a hindrance. There are some minority languages in use, but their scope is limited.

#Septopolis 10 Ethnically, it's very uniform[*] as it's far from anything else (the nearest significant landmass that's not part of the same country is in the other hemisphere, so being a harbour city doesn't help much). There's a higher concentration of mages like any big city. 1/3

#AwesomeCharacters Her defining trait is trust issues lol. She is starting to trust her friends, but she definitely doesn't trust herself. She does not trust any governments or anything of the sort with good reason. I think the only being she trusts is her pet, an actual monster cub.

#Septopolis 9 It's pretty consistently been named some version of 'sunset bay' or 'sunset harbour' or 'sunset river mouth'. The current version means sunset bay (in the most common language in the country, but it's poetic language). The reason is obvious.

#Septopolis 6 The most important natural landmark is the harbour itself. It's large, it's deep, and it's much cleaner than you would expect from a big city, at least for us. This means some really nice beaches especially on the south side of the harbour. 1/3

#Septopolis 5 There's the river, so there's plenty of fresh water. There's the harbour with plenty of fish and enough space and depth for large ships and therefore trade. There's forest on the surrounding land which means lumber. The land's not exactly great for growing grain, 1/2

#Septopolis 4 Latitude: temperate. It's well outside the tropics and well outside the poles. It's mostly built on the inside of a giant natural harbour, and the other most important factor is the giant river that runs through it. The old city is mostly north of the river, but now 1/3

#Septopolis 3 It is inspired by a few cities I have spent a lot of time in, including where I live now. It doesn't really resemble any of them now that it's gotten the worldbuilding treatment (presence of magic, the level of tech, demographics and economics of the setting, politics, etc.).

MC had to leave her hometown because she would have been killed otherwise. She also travels a lot because of her job at the current point in the story.

It's extremely important because a lot of my MC's story is about dealing with what her origins did to her.

#Septopolis 2 It's the city where the main cast's home base is, and where a lot of the action happens. There's a little bit of challenging myself as well, trying to build a city that feels real (transportation networks, the various areas in the city, suburbs, all of that).

#MythAugust 25 There's a lot of those. They fall into a few major categories: 1) local events for local spirits. These are usually very regional. 2) Major zodiac transitions, associated with seasonal gods, the sun god, and has aspects related to all major gods. 1/3
