The first bird I saw today after the winter solstice took place was a Cooper's Hawk eating a smaller bird. Judging by the remnants, the prey appears to have been a Dark-eyed Junco. Real circle-of-life stuff at the start of a new season. #birds #nature

I hate that it gets dark so early now. I wasn't able to go birding today, though I did see a pair of Blue Jays in my backyard this morning, and a juvenile bald eagle flew overhead when I was leaving my daughter off at school. So at least it wasn't a bird-free day for me! 🐦
