Before I spoke to the students, I asked the principal where they were in their history studies and I was told, ‘Oh, we don’t teach history here as it’s not a mandatory subject’, so I asked if they would pass a driving test without a rear-view mirror.

Inspired by Umberto Eco’s The Name Of The Rose, I populated The Bass Player: Surviving The Miami Showband Massacre with my own musical adventures to hold the reader’s attention while explaining the legal, psychological and historical context of the murder of a Rock and Roll band.

The Bass Player; Surviving The Miami Showband Massacre was published just five weeks ago and I am totally overwhelmed by the fabulous response at home and abroad. I can’t thank you enough.

I am delighted to announce that The Bass Player; Surviving The Miami Showband Massacre is in the bookstores from today and I’m truly honoured that the brilliant Hollywood producer, Alexandra Orton who produced our Emmy nominated Netflix documentary, has written the foreword.

On Sept. 19th, 1974, The Miami Showband first contacted me to play bass with them, I did not accept their offer then but I joined the following year and the rest is history. On Sept. 19th, 2025, exactly fifty one years later, I will make my first appearance on The Late Late Show.

Fifty years; the push of a button by my wonderful, courageous publishers, New Island and Birlinn, has resulted in a packed diary of international speaking events for 2025 / 2026.

It is essential for our new president to embody everything we desire our country to be: strong, dignified, wise, ethical, courageous and compassionate. We must settle for nothing less.

The Miami Showband 50th Anniversary Concert on Sept 29th at Vicar Street will celebrate the lives of three young men who succeeded beyond their wildest dreams in bringing happiness to all regardless of religion or politics. Lineup will be announced over the coming weeks & months.
