You can make a difference and stand up to book bans of queer literature. Read a banned book, or request it from your library. Read queer books at risk of being banned, talk about them, review them. 1/2

“LGBTQ+ BIPOC stories are so important because they help share real,lived experiences that build understanding and empathy. When we read about other peoples lives, their challenges, joys, and perspectives, it becomes so much harder to see them as “other.” 1/3

For many trans people, the first positive representation of people like them they will ever encounter is in books. These stories are vital because they tell trans people, and especially trans youth, that they belong, that they are special, and that they have so much to hope for. 1/2

SASS is collaborating with GCLS in a campaign for Banned Books Week on October 5-11. We will be holding a Zoom meeting tomorrow, September 27th at 1pm ET to discuss the collaboration and how you can participate.
