I can’t work out whether I’m excited or petrified about our choir performance at Carnegie Hall next week. It’ll be lovely to see New York City again, though. Last time I was there was around 20 years ago! It’ll be a really busy trip, mostly fuelled by caffeine and adrenaline. 😆

Late dress rehearsal tonight for a concert, and I’m completely exhausted! Slightly worried I’ll fall asleep halfway through Rutter’s Gloria tomorrow. I’d load up on caffeine, but then I might sing rather faster than intended. 😆

Making dinner, so I got the big blender out and got to work. Went to look up something on my phone. Couldn’t find phone. Spent the minute it took me to find it giving side-eye to the Vitamix and wondering if I’d accidentally blended it along with all the veggies. Thankfully, I hadn’t. 😆

Just put this piece of Roman olive through the bandsaw to cut it to the size I want, and I was immediately rewarded with a view of its unexpectedly stunning grain pattern. You never know what’s hiding inside a piece of #wood. 🥰 #woodworking #woodturning #woodsky #turning

Hubby asked for a small mallet, so I made one from tauari wood. It’s imperfect, but he’s happy with it and as it’s the first I’ve ever made, I’m trying to see more than those imperfections! It’ll do the job he wants it to do, so I guess that’s a win? 😆 #woodworking #turning #woodturning #woodsky

Popped into the workshop for a short while to finish this ambrosia maple bowl. I like this modern, angular shape contrasting with the “nature is equal parts weird and amazing” patterning in the wood. It even has some tiny holes in it, which I love. #woodworking #woodsky #woodturning #turning

One of the things I love about wood is that every piece tells its own story. I’ve been turning this gorgeous piece of ambrosia maple today, and I love the way the matte ambrosia pattern and tiny holes contrast with the chatoyancy of the maple. #woodworking #woodturning #woodsky #turning

The little spalted tamarind bowl I finished earlier. I wanted to make something that felt good to hold, and the shape of this is definitely very tactile. Needed to stabilise some slightly punky parts of the blank, but I’m pretty pleased with it. #woodturning #woodworking #woodsky #turning

Yesterday, I chose a block of jatoba wood (sometimes called Brazilian cherry, though it’s not a true cherry) to mount on my lathe. I wasn’t sure what to expect as the grain seemed quite boring…but it’s polished up super pretty! Loving that warm red-brown shade. #woodworking #woodturning #woodsky
