Day 33 of Japanese study! Reading practice while playing games is effective, and Where the sky is has each sentence twice, once with Kanji and once without. It’s very helpful for beginners trying to read! My reading speed is improving too!

Day 644 of swim! Another late evening workout, nothing too excited. We’re back to February temperatures though which is fun.

Day 643 of swim! This was earlier in the day, but I almost forgot to post lol. A pretty typical workout, nothing too exciting. I’m always counting my laps in Japanese now though to give myself a little extra mental practice. That and focusing on recalling Kanji while swimming.

Day 32 of Japanese study! Gotta say it’s really nice when I come across a new word in Anki and it already has kanji I recognize from WaniKani. It seems doing the two in tandem is working well!

Day 31 of Japanese study! I guess this means it’s been a month since I first started! Honestly feel like I’m making decent progress, have learned around 75 kanji with WaniKani (pictured, I haven’t stopped using since I started) and a lot more words on top of that! Progress!

Day 642 of swim! Workout done, a nice 58°F out today so that’s a very nice change! So much nicer not having my hair freeze on the way out lol.

Day 30 of Japanese study! Did my daily kanji and vocab, might try upping my vocab with Anki to 10 words daily instead of 5 to speed the process up. Also, a friend mailed me a Japanese newspaper today so I can use that as some reading practice. It’s really hard though!

Day 641 of swim. Very quiet workout today, thankfully it’s starting to finally warm up from that blizzard two weeks ago. Unfortunately I’ve noticed recently my weight has been creeping back up so I need to be careful about what I eat, don’t want my progress to all go away.

Day 29 of Japanese study! Trying to get immersion done in fun ways, and I’ve heard playing Animal Crossing in Japanese is one of the easiest games for reading, since it shows the furigana above the kanji making it easier to read. Looks like there’s an event today too :3

Day 640 of swim. Lifeguard was throwing what looks like salt into the pool today for some reason. Kind of burnt my recently shaved legs. Weird cause it’s a chlorinated pool. Never seen them do this before.

Day 28 of Japanese study! I’m not gonna lie, I’m really having some trouble getting Anki vocab to stick. Not sure why, but I’ll keep at it. Spent a ton of time doing reviews today. Currently have the Kaishi deck of the top 1500 most common words. Surely they’ll stick eventually.

Day 27 of Japanese study! I like that this site highlights words you’ve struggled with and gives you extra practice for them. I have some Valentine’s plans today, but I still managed to get in a few hours of passive listening too. :)

Day 26 of Japanese study! Very busy work day today so unfortunately not a ton of time to study, but I managed to do all my WaniKani lessons and reviews, and some podcast listening. Been doing daily Anki too, but man it’s pretty difficult for things to stick in my brain with it.

Day 25 of Japanese study! It’s pretty hard to find the time to study on work days, I can at least get my kanji in. I do try to find time to listen to beginner level podcasts at works, I want to get like…a minimum of three hours of audio immersion in Japanese per day.

Day 639 of swim! Pretty uneventful, normal workout today. Though I recently I’ve been waking up with pressure in my ears and idk if it’s sickness or jaw clenching. Swimming helps I think, cause by the time I get to work I’m mostly normal. Dunno what that’s about lol.

Day 24 of Japanese study! I’ve heard よつばと！(Yotsuba&!) is a pretty beginner friendly manga to read so I picked up the first volume to have something to help my reading improve. Thankfully they add furigana whenever kanji shows up so I can still read ones I haven’t learned!

Day 638 of swim! Actually saw one of my old coworkers at the gym today, which was weird cause I never run into people I know and that’s never happened before. I still didn’t say anything though because social interaction is hard lol.

Day 23 of Japanese study! Been trying to practice my reading/writing a lot more. My reading speed has already improved quite a bit, and I’m still practicing writing the kana over and over to get a handle on them. This is the nicest き I’ve ever written like wow it’s textbook.

Day 637 of swim! Tried something new today, since I’ve been studying a lot lately I actually counted my laps in Japanese for this workout. Might be the first time I’ve been able to multitask while swimming lol. Probably gonna do that from now on cause why not? :3

Day 22 of Japanese study! Alongside my daily studying, I also tried some listening quizzes on YouTube to see where I'm at. N5 is the lowest level of officially recognized proficiency, so it's the easiest level to understand. I still have a long way to go before I'm there though!

Day 636 of swim! Had work scheduled early today, so I also had to wake up earlier. Thankfully that means I was able to go to this pool since normally it’s closed at my usual swim time. This one is closer and nicer so it’s definitely preferred.

Day 20 of Japanese study! I realized I can recall hiragana and katakana well when I see them, but if you asked me to recreate them, I would struggle. I decided to learn to write them (with proper stroke order) which will help me see them in my head and recall them better!

Day 18 of Japanese study! What I’m trying to do is multitask study. I get a lot of downtime at work, so I do kanji practice during that time, and also when I’m working I try to listen to Japanese podcasts for more immersion. I’ve heard this one is a great podcast to start with!
