President Donald Trump will host a military parade marking the 250th birthday of the US Army — as well as his own 79th birthday — on June 14, the administration announced Friday.

...Gordon Granger, who issued General Order No. 3 on June 19, 1865, which declared that all enslaved people in Texas were free. This is the basis of Juneteenth. The military doesn't want to celebrate a holiday that it helped to make possible. Think about that for a moment.

Punditry abounding on Cleveland vs Trump. Consider, in conjunction, the oft-reposted Ann Telnaes cartoon (seen here); and Richard Hofstadter: “out of heartfelt conviction [Cleveland] gave to the interests what many a lesser politician might have sold them for a price.” So... one difference at least!
