Based on what it seems like the dislike button is going to actually do I'm not too concerned about it (although that may change as we get more information!), but a lot of people's immediate negative reactions to it make it really clear that it shouldn't be CALLED a dislike button or look like one.

This issue has literally warped my vocabulary because I now refer to things as "do not use or you will be fired" apis in my head.

It's absolutely not that I'm super happy with the direction bluesky is going, I just feel like the directions everybody other comparable platform is going are substantially worse in a bunch of ways.

Like, this is ultimately the thing. I can see why automatic comment filtering might be desireable, so I'm not religiously opposed to it, but the failure modes are nasty and you have to be really careful.

Anyway, that's my morning musing. Bluesky isn't meaningfully decentralised yet, and that is a valid criticism. But it does provide some meaningful choice you don't get in other places and I think that's good actually. /fin

The other thing is that I think people are attributing other issues with bluesky to these changes. Nothing that just happened should prevent you from making posts for example. If you cannot reply to a post you should be able to reply to, that's probably a bug.

So yeah there's been a bunch of cases of people saying a thing is hidden and then I go there and it's not and I'm wondering if that's bugs like hailey is suggesting or if people have their moderation settings weirdly high.

EXTREMELY UNSCIENTIFIC TEST OF BLUESKY'S "SHOW MORE": - So far, I can't find many threads with hidden replies? How do y'all have your moderation settings configured? Because if it's set to "hide" on the labeller it will go behind a show more. That's what that actually does.

The conversations around product decisions on this website get so hostile. And it's not for no reason! But it does make it hard to talk about the potential positives and negatives of the changes.
