Re reading PhD notes for a paper I’m writing and finding myself arguing with my interpretation some 8 years ago.

A lot of people just really seem to care though that "I remember when a Döner was 3€!" or whatever even if it's now a *smaller* % of their income

Yet another way in which I'm apparently an alien is that I genuinely don't care psychologically about increases in price during inflation as long as my income matches or exceeds it. "Okay number on sticker is 3x what it was, if my income is 5x what it would've been who cares?"

This is one reason I like the fact that Italy has been relatively urban since ancient times. It reduces (though not eliminates) the temptation to romanticize the rural.

The Italian right-wing coalition has two clear advantages over their opponents. They agree on who constitutes the bulk of their electorate -- to whom they need to throw some bones. And they have found a simple system to select their PMs, which everybody within it has shown they will respect.
