Todays #patchbirding highlights Nice mixed flock of Siskin gold/green/chaffinch . Barn owl and woodcock , watching the herons and the great -tailed grackle come into roost 😍

I suppose it was only a matter of time on #patchbirding Although a pair had a failed attempt at breeding back in 2020 🦜🦜

Elsewhere on #patchbirding late afternoon Seo showed nicely , Siskin , redpoll and goldfinch flock feeding on the alder trees was lovely to see and hear , couple of stonechat , 2 kes , 2 raven , 3 bullfinch Teal,redshank,curlew,oystercatchers on shore

After 5 hours of hard slog the Great-tailed Grackle finally gave itself up @nationaltrust.org.uk Speke Hall & later on the adj business park; great find by @birderjack.bsky.social + woodcock, siskins, repolls & bee orchid rosettes on the business park @mbblerc.bsky.social @birdguides.bsky.social

Eventually after a bit of a wait the Great tailed Grackle showed quite well just pre roost. Cracking #patchbirding find by @birderjack.bsky.social 😁 Cheers

Absolutely made up to see the grackle this morning on #patchbirding ( not sure what sp but more experienced birders will know I’m sure ) It’s doing circuits of the fields at Speke hall I’ve marked in red on map .lots of happy birders there now 👍🏻 I’m no photographer but here’s a few pics

a mystery bird from tonights #patchbirding Only managed this photo ,the bird looked all black and I couldn’t make out any features as it was dusk . I’ve attached video of the call it was making (like a clack sound) it was associating with the magpies Anyone any ideas ? Thanks #ukbirding

Persistence paid off this morning on #patchbirding . I’ve been hoping to see the firecrest again to add to #pwc2026 and finally ,out of the gloom ,there it was 😍

2 new for year birds on this mornings #patchbirding 3 Pintail and flock of wigeon 7 great white egret lots of little out on sand bars,large flock of lapwing ,a few blackwits , redshank and oystercatchers on shore at Oglet. Redwing fieldfare mixed finch flock mostly linnet

Late afternoon til dusk #patchbirding Teal,redshank,curlew,lapwings,oystercatchers on shore 3 bullfinch at my feeders was nice Short eared & barn owl ,2 kestrel ,2 buzzard ,2 raven 3 woodcock out of roost at dusk,Hooting tawny owls , screeching and barking foxes after dark

Today’s #patchbirding highlights 6 bullfinch together & a great white egret close in over high tide . I know they’re not rare these days but I always get excited to see one 🙂 Teal,redshank ,oystercatchers on shore Large flock of lapwing with a few curlew in fields at Oglet

Nice afternoon #patchbirding ( apart from getting battered by hale stones a few times 😂) Plenty of waders ..2 grey plover 2 blackwits 25 Dunlin 4 ringed plover were my first in a while large flock of lapwing curlew redshank oystercatchers Lots of common snipe and 3 Jack Seo

The call of the wild 🦊 fox and tawny owls very vocal on tonights dusk til dark #patchbirding Cetti’s , water rail and snipe also heard only Barn owl, seo, woodcock seen against a beautiful moonlit sky My first ever shooting star 💫

116 species for #patchbirding 2025 2 lifers .. shorelark & firecrest ,a record count of 6 gw egrets a #patchgold black redstart are some of my many highlights 2 new butterfly … wall brown and clouded yellow can’t wait to do it all again tomorrow 💪🏻 Happy new year everyone 🥳

Absolutely devastating news , our beloved rspb leader and friend Chris Tynan has passed away . I’m lost for words really , he was a truly wonderful person and an inspiration to me 💔 Rest in peace chris x

A walk around ditton brook , halebank A pair of shoveler were a new tick for me here . Gadwall, little egret also on the flooded field . Lots of teal on the brook . Fieldfare, redwings, mistle thrush ,2 parakeet , 2 stonechat and a big mixed finch flock.

Often heard but I rarely see one …todays #patchbirding highlight …I watched a water rail creeping along and then it sat preening for a good 5 minutes in the sunshine 😍 #ukbirding

Great views of a grey seal fishing close in on the River Mersey at Oglet this afternoon ..it caught 2 fish while I was there . #cetaceansuk

A #patchgold on todays #patchbirding A female black redstart 😍 only my 3rd ever here it was joined by a rock pipit and a few meadow pipits and 2 pied wags over the high tide and then disappeared into Garston docks . #ukbirding

High tide on #patchbirding ..mostly teal ,redshank and curlew Several Cetti’s and water rail heard Highlight was great views of a Jack snipe as I waited patiently for it to show itself 😍 A peregrine was perched on the gantry for a while but chased off by the crows and gulls

A garden 1st for me today …a hornet mimic hoverfly - volucella zonaria I bought this buddleia candy Lila sweetheart and would highly recommend , the amount of bees and hoverflys visiting it is amazing , it’s also attracted red admiral, painted lady,humming bird hawk moth 💜

Morning walk around ditton brook halebank Wheatear, 2 yellow wagtails,6 yellow hammer, 2 whitethroat, lots of finches feeding on the sunflowers. Juv mute swan,gadwall, coots, teal and moorhens on the brook . Swallows and house martins .

I felt like I’d won the lottery today 🤣😆 I’ve seen a few clouded yellow butterflies on my patch but none have landed until today ..so beautiful and especially in flight . #itsthelittlethings 💛

The house martins have started gathering on the sailing club roof on #patchbirding 2 shelduck families,curlew,redshank, oystercatchers,1 whimbrel , 17 black-tailed godwits on shore .

The reeds were alive with young Reed warblers on this mornings #patchbirding , 4 raven , 2 family’s of Cetti’s warblers , I caught a glimpse of 2 being fed curlew,redshank, oystercatchers and a few little egret on the shore 2 tiny young lizard warming up in the sunshine

The Juv whinchat was still here on todays #patchbirding Also Juv stonechats,Reed warblers and chiffchaff . Just a few blackwits curlew oystercatchers and shelduck family on the shore . 3 of the young ravens where out n about together .
