As life gets wild and I see others thriving where I'm trying to start I often ask myself why I even try to be creative. The answer is always 'No matter how amazing someone else's work is, it will never be for everyone. No matter what your work is, it will always be for someone.

In continuing to update and rework various classes I've reached an impasse on what was the Channeler and is being reworked to focus more on summoning and using natural spirits over channeling energy. Summoner, or Evoker? Leaning towards the latter.

Working on rebalancing a little bit of everything in Interwoven, and I'm curious on whether it would be better to do a generic creature collection, or focus on establishing a setting with its own bestiary and a layout of how to build creatures and everything else? #ttrpg

Every playtest session I run of Interwoven is a reminder that A: Things are in need of a lot of revision and B: I have very little time to do so.

Every playtest session I've run this week has left me more awake than when I started. I'd consider that a good sign.

Another playtest session down with a 2 player party, and aside from some clarifications and pain points with the character sheet things seem to be clicking. Leveling up went quick and has at least one player stoked. This is coming while I'm doing some overhauls, but it's still exhilarating. #ttrpg

I love how often I'll listen to an episode of the Eldritch Lorecast or another podcast and hear wishes or issues with D&D that are already addressed in Interwoven

Playtest with a group new to the system went well. The group was half the size of an expected party, but going directly from combat to a skill challenge seemed to go smoothly with the biggest issue brought up being cross-talk. Solid session, even if it was only an hour long. #ttrpg #interwoven

I've been really hesitant to add resurrection spells and mechanics to Interwoven to make death feel actually impactful. The only surefire way to raise the dead so far has been the Alchemist's capstone, which is a philosopher's stone. With the Tier 7 spell Resurrection, sometimes dead is better.

It feels so good to actually get to playtest Interwoven again, and with some new players in addition to previous playtesters. Some minor hiccups and some confusion regarding niche interactions being the worst things to come up in an alpha playtest is pretty solid IMO. #ttrpg

I am once again considering retooling the classes and I really shouldn't. Thinking of expanding the Technical aspect of class design to better line up with the other 4 aspects, Martial, Divine, Arcane and Primordial, but really don't think a full 5th list of hundreds of arts is needed. #ttrpg

Wanted to cast a self-deprecating joke; it is also an AoE spell. All creatives, save vs. impostor syndrome (DC 17). On failure, become incapacitated by the creeping suspicion you don't actually know what you're doing. Effect lasts 1d4 business days, or until positive feedback is received.

Nioh was a massive inspiration for the Warrior and the weapon systems in Interwoven in general. I cannot describe my hype knowing this exists.

Between trying and failing to get multiple groups together to playtest Interwoven and difficulty finding time to work on things at the moment I can't help but question why I'm working on it. The simple answer is it's fun to work on. The more likely one is sheer stubbornness.

After 6 months without a job I have stable work. In the first 2 weeks of this job they've had me train on using Gen AI and completely irrelevant topics for my position. Joblessness is looking more and more tempting by the hour.

Tracking encounters in Interwoven can be involved, with every combatant having between 2 and 10 stamina each round. Because turn order is typically set before combat though there's an easy method to keeping things in order... #interwoven #ttrpg

A fun realization while playtesting, Mana was originally envisioned as a finite resource that could be refilled to a limited degree over the day. Adding Fate in, getting resources back on doubles and triples, turns it less into a depleting meter and more into a cooldown.

And Tier 4 spells and arts are tentatively done and sitting at 68 total, bringing the total number of spells/arts in Interwoven up to 424 so far, and allowing all classes to be played fully up through level 12. Levels 1-5 are fully playable in the current alpha doc, and feedback is welcome. #ttrpg

Tier 4 spells are done, totaling 51 so far between arcane, divine and primordial. Just need some more martial options to keep things balanced. Looking back at older versions and notes it's funny how much things have changed and power creep has happened during development. Build strong, balance back.

I do love coming up with optional rules for playtest material. Like Mana Sickness to make people think twice about dumping all their resources into one big thing. Or weapon durability to encourage players upgrading and not dumping all their resources into one big thing. Or alternative death rules.

My previous employer pushed AI about a year ago. A month later they cut 10% of my department. 6 months ago they laid off 20% of my department, including me. My wife who worked in the same department was spared. Today she received notice that the entire department is being shut down. Fuck AI.

Tier 3 Spells/Arts are done, totaling 76 with 19 for each of the disciplines and essentially bringing all classes up to level 9 in playability. The next alpha doc will be put out after Tier 5 is finished and feedback is gathered on the first. #interwoven #ttrpg

Filling out Tier 3 spells and arts, and while Arcane, Divine and Primordial spells all have pretty hard and fast themes that makes developing them tricky, Martial Arts are definitely the hardest ones to design... If only there was a reference for cool ways to use weapons.... #ttrpg

Any time I start building a setting for playtests or games I try to limit inspirations to restrict options and not go too crazy just building things. This hasn't stopped me from going crazy just building things. There may or may not be 13 extra Ancestry options not in the alpha. #ttrpg #interwoven

I offer to run a campaign for a few friends after not doing so while working on Interwoven, and they seem interested. Try to get things set up: One person can't join, another can't give a straight answer on availability, and a third won't play unless it's at least a 3 person party... Yay

As much inspiration as I took from D&D when making Interwoven, MtG might be the biggest influence on setting it apart. Class aspects, Martial, Divine, Arcane, etc. and their techniques are separated like the color pie. The stamina system is heavily inspired by CMC and instants. #ttrpg

Aside from some minor formatting and ease of access things like bookmarks and quick reference options, the second alpha document for Interwoven is essentially ready to go out. It's currently sitting at just shy of 300 pages, but it's everything to play the game through level 5.

6 Vocations are down through level 5, the system through which Interwoven handles both subclasses and non-class archetypes. Some more crafting and enchanting info and magic items are pretty much all that's left before the next alpha doc is finished.

Chipping away at refining and adding some things for an updated alpha doc, including things like crafting, enchanting and some early Vocation options. Vocations should help to fill some niche holes and give more setting specific abilities. Archetype-esque in flavor, in theory. #ttrpg #interwoven
