We've had a super morning at nearby Sizergh castle, a 14th century pele tower with stunning gardens. Lovely to wander around in warm sunshine, taking lots of photos and even managing a quick sketch of the castle...

Happy to be proved wrong about England winning. Although I still didn't stay up to watch them!

Interesting detour on the way back from the weekly food shop to a presentation about planned developments to Windermere rail station. Some great ideas and they were keen to have locals' feedback - it'll be interesting to see which design gets chosen.

OK temp here in Windermere just hit 30c, this is getting silly! (I appreciate it's even worse in some places but it's pretty unusual this far north). Hoping it'll start getting a bit less ferocious from tomorrow... 🤞 How's everyone else coping?

Latest sketch from my journal: Grizedale Forest. This is the site of an old "big house" which housed a POW camp for Germans during World War II. The house has since been demolished, but you can still see the balustrade along the edge of the old garden terrace, looking out across the valley.

Edits on Ghosts in Spades are going surprisingly well and I've just come up with the perfect tagline, which was in the very first chapter: "The noise was enough to raise the dead. Never a good idea at Greystones Hall." 😉

Another lovely sunny day, another country walk - along the "under Loughrigg" lane from Ambleside this time. It's a favourite because it's not *too* strenuous and the scenery is amazing...

Had a super walk at Grizedale Forest, and lunch outside in the courtyard. Loads of wild flowers everywhere, plus robins and a swallow. Heavy rain on the way home so we were really lucky!!

Coffee outside the Waterside Cafe on the banks of the River Kent in Kendal. Drinks took a while to come so I whipped out my sketchbook and drew the view of Miller Bridge, which dates from 1818 and still carries all the traffic for the A6 over the river.

Absolutely delighted to announce I've been accepted as a member of Green Door Artists' collective/support group in Kendal. It's been a dream for the year and a half that I've been doing art! Looking forward to getting to know more local artists and joining in with all the good stuff.

"Outdoor" art session in the rain last night at Calgarth Park near Windermere, dashing out to take photos and then retreating indoors to sketch. A lovely social event. This is a fibre tip pen sketch of the main building, originally an orthopaedic hospital for children.

My friend bust a gut laughing when I told her I had an outdoor art session this evening... 🤪

Missed yesterday's outdoor art session as waiting in for a parcel, so used the time to start work on a new charcoal drawing of an old garden roller I photographed at Levens Hall a few years ago. Nowhere near finished yet! but I like the texture on the roller itself...

Hilarious email from scammers banging on about how wonderful my book Bon Appetit was and how nice to have something warm-hearted and related to community, food, recipes and cooking. Er... it's a naughty shapeshifter/bloodsucker/MM romance. 😱 Gave me a really good laugh, though!
