I’m exhausted from all the earth moving in the last two days with 28 five gallon buckets of compost and soil filling Liz’s pumpkin patch planter and topping off my new flower bed. How do you spell TIRED?😅

When we lived in Jenkintown, PA, the July 4th Parade was led by a band of bagpipes & drums. At 9 AM, the bagpipes would start up, heard easily in this tiny town. The Tartan Army videos bring back memories I had set aside over 20+ years in the dust of travels and time. I’m smiling. I’m remembering.

Good morning on this fine Friday. ☕️🌸 The peonies are just past peak, and I love them so.

A new lunch for me- warm peach and ricotta on pita bread. I added sliced leftover pork chop and drizzled it with balsamic & honey, and sprinkled on toasted walnuts and fresh basil. Yes, it was delicious.

I’m filling the planter for my daughter who wants to grow pumpkins today. Order from bottom up: Rocks at the bottom, rotting wood and branches next, duck poo with wood chips, topped with horse and cow manure mixed with sifted soil. Whew!

This evening I attended the Missoula Interdenominational Collaboration year end celebration and fundraiser with Fr. Gregory Boyle of Homeboy Industries in LA as the keynote speaker. Even better, by chance I was able to greet & thank Fr. Boyle. MIC is modeled on the principles of Homeboy Industries.

Sometimes going just a few miles off the regular route presents a new world to explore. That is exactly what happened this morning when a friend took me to see Seli’š Ksanka Qlispe’ (formerly Kerr Dam) south of Polson MT. Amazing!

Good morning to all who pass by. Last evening’s golden light somewhat softened the presence of a new tower. I know we need better internet & cell services here, but I’m sad & angry that this tower of metal rises in my view of the mountains & Dancing Boy. Acceptance is key, but slow to arrive.

My first spring evening in the garden: gentle breezes, new growth, and gentle light. All good, all beautiful.

What’s for dinner? Marry Me Chicken Meatballs are served on a bed of chopped baby spinach and cauliflower rice. This was a first time recipe, and it’s going into the rotation. The sauce includes sun dried tomatoes, lemon juice and Italian flavor from the herbs. Bon Appétit!

Weeks go by, and life continues. Last #Stunday, before the cold & snow returned, I got up to the Mission Falls Trail in the Flathead Reservation Wilderness Area. Aside from losing my phone along the way, it was a spectacular day. The phone miraculously came back to me via a hiker who came after us.

Finally, the daffodils have opened their cheerful blooms. The beauty of Spring is not to be missed!

April 1: spring is here. I just did a walk around, initially to see the daffodils, but then I decided to get my hands dirty and look for signs of peony, prairie smoke, and lilac life. They all made it through, and the transplanted lilac has settled in and is thriving.

Yesterday was my birthday, another trip around the sun completed, bringing me to the start of my 75th year. Dear daughter treated at our lunch out, a nice gesture. My one request was that she wear her brace so we could sit on the lower level, the better to view the wildlife and scenery. 🩵💙🤍

Spring in our valley is greening up. It is time to clean up the beds as irises, tulips, prairie smoke, daffodils, hollyhocks, peonies and roses are awakening. And then there are the newborn calves to watch. What a beautiful time to be here, right here, for good. 🪴

A quiet morning with coffee and the sunrise is always a good beginning.

On a brilliant early Sunday afternoon, the bulbs are thriving and reaching for the sunshine and breezes of Spring. May we also glow and grow with Spring’s evanescent pleasures.

Well, we got a storm and I’m working on getting the driveway cleared before tomorrow morning. I think I got 1/2 done so far. It’s rest, hydrate, & refuel time, then back out I go to finish.
