Seems an apt time to re-post this article on Tehran.

This is an important story. Groundwater over-extraction and aquifer collapse / ground sinking (subsidence) is a concern all over. CA central valley has sunk almost 30’ in a century. Tehran is no longer viable. And that water storage is gone forever.

Iran’s Capital Is Moving. The Reason Is an Ecological Catastrophe
The decision to move Iran’s capital is partly driven by climate change, but experts say decades of human error and action are also to blame

Sigh. Can confirm. Sitting on the tarmac waiting to depart: slightly less hellish than after arrival, but still shitty.

On May 18, 1980, Richard Lasher got up early to get some photos at Spirit Lake. Instead, he was forced to stop because of the massive, explosive Mount St. Helens eruption and captured this iconic photo with his own red Ford Pinto on the road. 🧪⚒️

OK, this is wild. In September 2023, geophysicists across the world started monitoring a very odd signal coming from the ground under them. It was picked up in the Arctic. And Antarctica. It was detected everywhere, every 90 seconds, as regular as a metronome, for *nine days*. What the HELL? 1/

Apparently surface rupture during the Myanmar 2025. I'm very surprised by the weak shaking along the rupture. I'm not sure if this is the main rupture (I would say no - nonetheless, VERY COOL). Author unknown, location Thazi (to be confirmed)

Absolutely amazing video. Direct displacement of a drainage/channel: it is possible to see a right lateral displacement of the thalweg of about 1.5 to 2 m. It is also possible to see the fault plane exposed! Credit: okarun011 on TikTok
