To be autistic for a minute: there actually are Earth rocks on the Moon already. Sufficiently big impacts launch ejecta right into space, and some of that will have landed on the Moon. Some fraction of the material mixed up in lunar soil started out on Earth.

Some discussion on Artemis II broadcast about how dark the Moon is compared to Earth. Here's a really nice look at the two together from the same camera -- the Moon isn't white, it's dark brown

I was recently labeled by a user here as an "AI Hater." Which, fair. My problem with AI is less the tool itself, but how humans use it. Its use should be disclosed and it should be ethically applied. These modest concerns are too much for the AI evangelists, it seems.

I asked an AI researcher recently how they planned to prevent abuse. Their answer was (1) Compliance with the law & (2) Trusting people to be good. I really wish people--particularly the academics promoting this work--would grapple with what the worst and the laziest do with these ubiquitous tools.

In 1982, the administration defunded EPA's Office of Noise Abatement and Control, despite appropriated funds. Managing noise hearing hazards were de facto limited to the workplace, and efforts to address noise have been hurt ever since. The blueprint for this has been around for some time.

Pre-9/11, a kid in my squad at West Point said he was the reincarnation of Gen. George S. Patton, and he was destined to be a general leading Armageddon. I was relieved he didn't graduate, but sometimes I wonder if he was more prescient than anyone realized.

's concern about the power dynamic. ~10 years ago, hospitals made it a big issue that patients shouldn't record encounters (when patients were trying to protect themselves), but it's now acceptable in this context.

We've just rolled out ambient AI listening in our hospital, and my colleagues are really, really excited about it (more time doing things other than note writing). They're so excited that things like patient concerns/autonomy are lost. We're just making up ethics as we go along with AI right now.
