If you opt in to playing a strategy card game, then you should be prepared to engage in actual strategy. At bare minimum, stop getting uppity at people who want to engage in the strategy aspect of the game. Telling people they're wrong for liking to win is incredibly toxic.

I don't have many issues with UB, but the two I have directly relate to its impact on the lore of the Multiverse. - The main story gets disrupted by UB releases in standard, for far too long a stretch of time. - UB eats up interesting commander design space that could be applied to UW characters.

Really productive session this evening, 25.5 new designs for Innovara. All still WIPs, everything is subject to change, but it's so much easier to tweak a design than invent one. Main focus tonight was on mana fixing, faction leaders and updating old designs with the reworked mechanics.

No more calling it "friendslop". They're co-op/multiplayer games. Friendslop is a terribly degrading term used by miserable, friendless basement dwellers who have ever only played FPS while yelling slurs at some kid. Especially sad when the games are fun, engaging, and done with true care.

The irony that I'm now getting engagement on a custom card post, but the card name itself is a pun is not lost on me. 😂

Sometimes you stay up to Ecuador vs Curacao and work on more custom card design. Sometimes good things come out of that. Sometime you get Phanstagmagoria.

Locations are also vital. These give you freedom in naming cards, and tell your players that thing A and thing B are from the same place, maybe worth checking if they work together?! Its a clear language to help players identify themes, but a great tool for the designer too!

Doing some further worldbuilding for my second custom set, Innovara: Boomsday. It's so important as a designer to give yourself a range of sub-factions and flesh out the landscapes of a plane. It gives you options since the artwork can all align visually at all times.

After spending months doing rules text formatting, I cannot stress enough how off-putting that second paragraph looks.

After much iteration, I've figured out some frame tech that supports a couple of mechanics. 1 is a riff on an existing mechanic. 1 is a new mechanic that has already shown up in Siguran.

Generation 2 is an atrocious mess of poor flow, and inconsequential trainer battles after Whitney, that they decided not to fix in the remakes. Which is a shame since they came up with some incredibly designs. Quote with your Top 4 Johto Pokemon.

Damn, tonight's design session for set #2 resulted in some absolute bangers and mash. The biggest constraint at the moment is not enough viable art to match my vision, but the card development well is still full.

Coin of Mastery is a messed up magic card. Especially in a deck like Syr Ginger that's both artifact dense and has significant +1/+1 counter synergies. Syr Ginger remains fun to play, and first time casting The Ooze tonight, those Mutagen tokens do a lot of work.

We've hit the 36 hour mark, just need to stay up another 4 or so and then hopefully the sleep schedule will get a well deserved reset.

That is an atrocious decision in the L1 Play-Off final, VAR once again ruining football. And for the referee to call it a "careless challenge" is terrible, the striker was simply running. Goal ruled out because the striker was running.

That was a really successful release of my set, 6 player draft with one person who wasn't part of the testing team. They were able to draft without any questions about the mechanics, which means I have done my job in both the use of reminder text, but also the making the archetypes easy to follow.

Making Gloom: Part 1. In which I cover the initial building blocks that resulting in me even taking on the task of designing an entire custom Magic set.

Today, after about 2 months of testing with my local group, I finalised the set list for my first custom set. Siguran: Second Age of Gloom.

I am Jack's complete lack of surprise that the officials didn't think Havertz tackle was a red. Par for the course from the officials these days. Not prepared to punish certain teams just at all.

While I think this way of thinking would benefit many people, I also encourage people to recognise that some people play games to try and win games. Some people derive their joy from having the thing they built perform and claim victory. It's a confirmation that they're progressing as a player.
