Former Red Sox assistant hitting coach Victor Rodriguez is on the move. He's leaving the Padres, where he was hitting coach, to take the same position with the Astros.

Braves picked up Chris Sale's $18M option for 2026. He's 25-8, 2.46 in 49 starts since the Sox traded him for Vaughn Grissom, who has since played 31 MLB games and had a .465 OPS. But nobody at the time thought it was a terrible idea. Sale looked cooked in '23. Kudos to him for rebounding.

Nothing unusual about the Red Sox ST schedule. One overnight trip (Phillies-Tigers March 5-6). No games (home or away) against the East Coast teams. Eight vs. the Twins and Puerto Rico's WBC team at Fort Myers on March 3. Northeastern exib. on Feb. 20. Yankees home (March 4) and away. (March 16).

Sox also declined their $12 mutual option on RHP Liam Hendriks and will pay him a $2 million buyout. The team ultimately paid $10 million for 14 appearances and 6.59 ERA over two seasons as Hendriks dealt with elbow and hip issues.

Per source, Lucas Giolito will decline the player side of his mutual option with the Red Sox. Sox now have to decide whether to make him a 1-year $22M qualifying offer.

Mookie Betts donated his glove to the Hall of Fame for its World Series exhibit. The double play he turned was the first to end a World Series since 1947 when Phil Rizzuto started a 6-4-3 to beat the Brooklyn Dodgers. Holy cow.

Mookie Betts: "This was the toughest World Series I've been a part of. Seven games, everything that happened. Not that that any of them are easy, right? But we never had any momentum in this game. It was going their way the whole time."

Mookie Betts now has four WS rings. He’s the only active player with as many and one of only 19 since division play started in 1969.
