Kira from the source didn't kill until after her fusion with her shard from the 13th. Her first kills were the two Garlean scientists who experimented upon her. Her shard from the 13th doesn't even remember her first kill. Seeing her family obliterated by an Eidolon at age 8 numbed her to killing.

Kira was fused with a voidsent carrying a shard of her soul so she has her memories from before the void as well as voidsent powers. She knows she's a monster so she tries to avoid people, yet people have come into her life nonetheless. Becoming the warrior of light was quite unexpected for her.
