Sad to hear the passing of Raul Malo. The Mavericks were a special band for me as a teenager. Malo was an Orbison-esque crooner mixing early rock and roll with 90s country pop. Years later, I discovered the Bastard Son's of Johnny Cash in part because they reminded me of the Mavericks. RIP legend.

A while back, I took this photo of a band called Stay In Nothing. The bass player / co-singer is shy, and plays with her back to the crowd. She is quite fascinating. I saw her before the gig sitting outside reading "Go Down, Moses" by William Faulkner.

We need a national trust fund to this. It would require a funding mechanism (say 10% fee on all live music event tickets sales priced above £50), a long-term investment trust (like a pension), and cooperative style partnership agreements with music venues.
