Daily sketch: CONAN THE BARBARIAN! I had no idea who I was drawing when I started this. Just began noodling an extreme leaping-into-battle pose. At the end, Conan seemed a good fit.

Morning sketch: GREEN LANTERN! I was looking at the markers, and hadn’t used the greens much. So Hal Jordan time! Also playing around with a way to handle the boxing glove ring construct with the markers, with a little extra white thrown in.

Little help? I’m taking a poll. I’m considering revisiting this DAREDEVIL piece to darken it up (as I did with a filter on the 2nd image). I might’ve been too tentative on the first, and darker is more dramatic. Which do you prefer?

MANHUNTER! Full figure con-style. I can’t hold a candle to Walt, but I gave it my best shot.

FROG! Here’s a fun one. Remark in a copy of NED Lord of the Pit for POP’S CULTURE SHOPPE in Wellsboro PA. They’re carrying both vol 1 & 2. (Show them some love.) They requested a frog reading a book. I chose WIND IN THE WILLOWS.

Morning sketch: JACK SKELLINGTON! A collector who bought the SALLY daily sketch wanted a matching pseudo-real looking version of Jack to go along with it.

VAMPIRELLA! Didn’t want to do a lot with her skin; leave it white. She is undead after all.

Morning sketch: GREEN GOBLIN! I started this as a prelim study for a larger color piece, but I’ve been wanting to do something in grayscale. Like most of these, I never know how it’s turned out until I put in the blacks. I think it holds up OK.

JACK-O-LANTERN! One last leftover from BALTIMORE COMIC CON. This is the Marvel/SPIDEY villain, not the DC version.

Morning sketch: SPIDER-GWEN! I forgot to post this. It’s the finished version of the rough sketch posted a ways back, and the preliminary study for the final color commission posted a few days ago.

BALTIMORE COMIC CON: Zombie CAPTAIN AMERICA! I have a few leftovers from the show. This was one of the most fun of the weekend.

BALTIMORE COMIC CON: full-figure color. SPIDER-GWEN! (Sans mask) The purple for the building “silhouette” background was a risk, but it pops nicely.

BALTIMORE COMIC CON: SCOTTY! Star Trek collector again; wanted a caricature to match the SPOCK. Here’s Montgomery Scott. Note the wrench.

BALTIMORE COMIC CON: BONES! Collector wanted a daily-sketch style of the good Dr to match the James Kirk they bought too.

Morning sketch: WOLVERINE! Another of what I’m calling DEFEATED HANDS, after a lost battle. A good way to practice drawing hands which I sometimes struggle with. (As well as ending sentences with prepositions.)

BALTIMORE COMIC CON! The shows are coming fast and furious now. Come see me in Baltimore this weekend. Definitely one of the best shows for collectors and comics.

Morning sketch: THE THING! Had an idea to do sort of defeated hands of a character after losing a fight. Question was what characters are immediately recognizable by their hands? Ben Grimm was an obvious one. Also worked in some grayscale here.

Morning sketch: MR FREEZE! This was done one of the NYCC mornings, and people might recognize its similarity to the cover head sketch posted during the show. Since I couldn’t pencil on that slick cover, I did this as practice for the commission.

NEW YORK COMIC CON: DUELA DENT! I knew about Joker’s “daughter”, but this collector gave me the rundown on all the BatVillains of whom she’s claimed to be their daughter. Pretty psycho. I got to do Penguin’s daughter for him. Fun.

NEW YORK COMIC CON: AQUAMAN! I don’t think there will ever be a show where I’m not asked to draw him.

NEW YORK COMIC CON: head sketch on a sketch cover. ZOMBIE AQUAMAN! (The yellow fade was printed on the cover.)

NEW YORK COMIC CON: MR FREEZE! Tough head sketch on a black glossy comic cover. Had to draw the white areas. And couldn’t even pencil first. Had to just start and hope it worked out.

NEW YORK COMIC CON: a double commission. MARTY McFLY and DOC together again… literally. The two boards go together to make one big image.

NEW YORK COMIC CON: SANDMAN! commission. Dream as, yes, Ziggy Stardust.

NEW YORK COMIC CON: VENOM! Officially now the oddest commission request. Head sketch on a Union Jack British flag. Just when I thought I’d done everything…

NEW YORK COMIC CON! It begins. Everyone wave to Bill.

SPIDER-GWEN! Sketching on the train to NYC. Wanted to try a different kind of pose. She’s just let go of the webline in the foreground and is falling gleefully above the city. I forgot an eraser, so this is all I can do!

HELLBOY! Before I head into NYC to set up for the con, there was enough time for a 9x12 head sketch I was thinking about. As with a lot of these color SFX, some of the subtitles can get washed out by the camera.
