AZRAEL! Finished. 9x12 con-style. This would be somewhere between a head-sketch and a torso. If anyone, noticed compared to yesterday, I had a highlight around the backside of the figure; but filled that all in black, as I realized the figure would hold fine without that highlight.

Work in progress: AZRAEL! This is always the interesting stage, with the color done, but the black is not filled in yet. The blacks really add the drama, and I’m never sure if the piece works until I’ve got all the black in. We’ll see…

MEPHISTO! Working on a commission. Here’s a detail of the rough layout with the important part: GHOST RIDER in the palm of his hand.

GAMBIT! 9x12. I liked how the Gambit morning sketch turned out, so I wanted to do something larger, and with a glowing card. This would be con-style head sketch.

From the files: SPIDERWOMAN! Similar pose I’ve used for Spider-Man before; I really like the angle. Here I added the spotlight. Also let all her white areas “bleed” together with no outline for an interesting effect.

Another sketchbook down. I’ve been doing more commissions of late, so I’m filling the sketchbooks more slowly.

Morning sketch: BATMAN! One more spotlight theme. Probably the last for a bit. I usually do 4 of a specific theme since thats how many fit on a page in the portfolio. Unless someone commissions their favorite character.

Morning sketch: GAMBIT! Besides keeping it monochromatic, I let each color dry before the next, giving it distinct bands like cell-shading.

GHOST RIDER! Commission finished. And remember, there is only one Ghost Rider: JOHNNY BLAZE.

Morning sketch: THANOS! Finished the color. I wanted to do something different with the glow than I’ve done before. This is inspired by the way Barry Windsor-Smith did some fx in Solar, Man of the Atom for Valiant.

Morning sketch: THANOS! Since I posted the pencils before, I figured I’d post all the phases. This is preliminary ink before color. The tombow pen outlines come first. The alcohol markers would smear big heavy blacks, but these lines hold up okay.

GHOST RIDER! Final pencils for the commission. There will be a lot added to the background in the inks that I didn’t need to pencil.

Morning sketch: THANOS! Pencil sketch. This’ll be a couple mornings. Going to finish it in color. Thanos will be lit by white light (spectrum combines to make white), but I’m still deciding how to have each stone’s glow interact with the ones around it.

GHOST RIDER! Pencils of Mr Blaze and his bike. Still have all the background to do for this commission, but I figured this was a good stage show.

Morning sketch: JUGGERNAUT! Going through the files I found I had only a funny Juggernaut warm up sketch, so I went a bit more threatening (despite his smile). Tried a similar design/light effect that I used on an Iron Man a ways back.
