JOE PASS: Today is the birthday of the extraordinary Joe Pass. I had a love/hate relationship with Joe’s record Virtuoso as a teenager. It was so good it made me feel like I might as well just give up on solo guitar altogether! Fortunately, I haven’t yet 😂 Happy birthday, Joe Pass!

Today's #throwback : This shot was taken at Dizzy’s Club in New York back in October 2013, when the Deep Blue Organ Trio was at its height. I looked out and saw Paul Schaffer in the audience. I’m not usually a “can I get a picture type of guy,” but in this case I had to make an exception!

DONALD FAGEN: Today we mark the birthday of Steely Dan legend Donald Fagen. I met him when he invited The Deep Blue Organ Trio to open for Steely Dan at a show. We'd go on to tour together twice, and this pic is from one of those times. Happy birthday, Donald, and keep on keepin’ on.

MIKE STERN: Today I’m wishing a happy birthday to the great Mike Stern. Mike and I crossed paths at the 55 Grand Street Club in NYC and quickly formed a guitar-centered friendship. This photo is a fun #flashback to 2013, when I found myself next to Mike Stern and Pat Martino on a wall of fame!

MAX ROACH: Today I’m remembering the birthday of Max Roach — an extraordinary jazz drummer and a true giant, and someone I was fortunate enough to perform with. The photo here is from those shows. It remains one of the great honors of my career. Happy birthday, Max Roach.
