Goals galore in the Challenge League tonight! 5 games, 25 goals. Every match had at least 3. Stade Nyonnais v Aarau a particular highlight: ending 5-4 to the visitors after a crazy game.

Thomas Häberli fired by Servette after a poor start to the season. 0 points in the league and out of the Champions League qualifiers. Harsh, given that the season has only just started + the loss of players like Kutesa and Crivelli, but Servette are an ambitious club. Question is, who takes over?

Super League Round 2 Lugano lose 4-0 away to leaders Sion, carrying on a worrying start to 25/26. Basel back to winning ways against GC, while FCSG picked up another valuable victory against Servette (also with both domestic & European issues). Thun continued their great start against Lausanne.

I hope none of them left early to catch the boat back to Schaffhausen...

🇨🇭⛴️ Landlocked Switzerland is set for an unusual away day when the Promotion League, the country's third tier, gets under way today. The fans of FC Schaffhausen have organised a boat to take them down the Rhine for their game against Kreuzlingen on the shores of Lake Constance.

Lugano had two goals ruled out against Cluj 🇷🇴 before losing their Europa League qualifier in extra time. They now drop into the Conference League qualifiers to play Celje of Slovenia 🇸🇮 who knocked them out of the Conference League on penalties last season.

Servette will play Utrecht 🇳🇱 in the next round of the Europa League qualifiers after dropping out of the Champions League. A 7-2 aggregate win over Sheriff Tiraspol has seen the Dutch side comfortably into the next round.

FT: Servette 1-3 Plzen (2:3 agg) Despite leading 2-0 on aggregate, Servette are out of the #UCL qualifiers at the first hurdle. A second half penalty gave the Czech side their way through and left Servette rueing their multiple mistakes on the night. Disappointing.

Plzen going down to 10 might have helped Servette regain control if Yoan Severin hadn't picked up his own second yellow a few minutes later 🙃

*WHAT* are Servette doing? In the space of 3 minutes, they've thrown away a 2-goal lead. First, a man left completely unmarked at the back post, then an AWOL defensive line and some poor goalkeeping from Joel Mall lets Plzen right back into the game.

Super League Round 1 Did anyone expect Lugano, Basel & Servette to make up the bottom 3 at the end of Round 1? The reigning champs lost in St Gallen, while Lugano gave up a 1-0 lead to lose to newly-promoted Thun. Servette's trip to Bern was made harder by an early red for Bradley Mazikou.

Sion turn a 2-goal deficit around in the final 10 minutes to win the opening game of 25/26 2-3 in Zürich. A Steven Zuber wonderstrike kicked things off, before a huge error in the FCZ backline allowed Sion an open goal to win the game in the 92nd minute. Welcome back to Swiss Football 🫡

While England and Italy battle a semi-final in Geneva, Servette have been in Czechia, picking up an incredibly valuable 1-0 win against Plzen in the #UCL qualifiers. New boy Samuel Mraz got the only goal of the game. What a way to start.

Euro 2025, let's go! Switzerland kick off their campaign this evening against strong opposition: former European champs, Norway. The Swiss have a tough group, with Iceland and Finland completing the set, so getting into the knockouts has to be the only focus for now.

Late late late shows in both games, as Kreuzlingen, located by the Bodensee (Lake Constance to you, perhaps) and Lausanne II head to the third tier. A shame for YF Juventus of Zürich, but those are the breaks!

The 4th tier playoffs finish this evening, deciding which two sides will go up to the Promotion League. The first game is between Grasshopper II and Kreuzlingen, while Young Fellows Juventus (yes, really) play Lausanne II. Not to be biased, but I'm firmly behind the independent clubs here.

FT: Biel-Bienne 1:4 Basel It's a league/cup double for Basel! A second half penalty gave Biel some hope, but it was all Basel from there. 3 quick goals put Biel to the sword and capped a fantastic season for Fabio Celestini and FC Basel.

HT: Biel-Bienne 0:1 Basel It's hardly been domination, but the favourites are in front at the break thanks to an unfortunate own goal. Biel have had a chance or two, however. Don't count them out of this.

It's the final game of the Swiss professional season: FC Biel-Bienne of the Promotion League take on FC Basel, Swiss Champions, in the 100th final of the Swiss Cup.

FT: GCZ 4-0 Aarau Barring a miracle (maybe more than that), GC will be in the Super League next season.

Full Time: WINTERTHUR SURVIVE Schützenwiese goes crazy. Fireworks all over the place. This was a club that may as well have already been in the Challenge League at Christmas. Uli Forte pulled off an incredible job just to get them out of last place; to finish 10th is unbelievable.

Relegation Group - Final Round HT: Box office. Every single side in the relegation fight is winning at half-time. Currently, Winterthur - miraculously - would be the team to stay up, Yverdon would be down automatically, and GC would be back in the barrage games against Aarau. Madness.

The SFL have confirmed that SC Kriens have *not* received a license to play in the Challenge League next season. So, even if they manage to beat Rapperswil-Jona to the Promotion League title, they will not go up. Rapperswil will replace Schaffhausen in the 2nd tier next season.

Super League results (18.1) Championship Group Young Boys 6-2 Basel Lausanne 1-1 Lugano Luzern 3-4 Servette So. Many. Goals. That second Champions League spot is still open to both Servette & YB going into the final day. Lugano just hold onto the Conference League, but it's all to play for!

Huge congratulations to Young Boys, who took their second ever Women's Championship yesterday, beating GCZ 2-1 on the day, before winning the title on penalties. Very tough on GC, but YB were - in my view - the rightful champions, having won the league before the playoffs.

Big shock in the penultimate Promotion League games this afternoon: Biel-Bienne lose to Basel II, meaning they are *out* of the title race. It's down to Rapperswil-Jona and Kriens for the top spot. But, remember, Kriens don't currently have a license for the Challenge League and... ⬇️

1-2! Aarau look to have won it right at the death! A fantastic counter from Colin Odutayo ends up with Yannick Toure one-on-one with Antonio, and he makes no mistake. And, just to put the cherry on top, Toure has just scored again. 1-3. Aarau will have a shot to make it to the Super League.

With the title already sewn up, all eyes are on 2nd place in the Challenge League tonight as Etoile-Carouge take on Aarau. If Aarau win, they secure their place in the barrage games for promotion; Etoile-Carouge need to win/draw to stay in the hunt going into the final day. Currently, 1-0 Aarau.

Super League results (15.5) Championship Group ➡️ Servette 4-1 Lugano ➡️ Young Boys 2-1 Luzern Victories for both Servette (2nd) and Young Boys (3rd) keep the top 6 looking exactly the same as it did before. Two games left for one of them to grab that UCL qualifying spot.
