The more I read about the challenges of effective CSAM reports, the more it reminds me of where security vulnerability reporting was pre-CVE. The CVE system isn’t perfect, but it’s nothing short of amazing how a group of people came together and created what would become an industry-wide standard.

A pithy line I’ve found myself saying that you’re welcome to reuse and remix: Donating your project to an OSS foundation doesn’t reduce the work, it just moves the work. There may be very good reasons for moving! But someone still needs to do the work and that someone will be you.

Foundations aren’t valueless, but the false idea a project has to be in one to be “truly open” has spread across tech. The license + public development gives you all you need to have multiple parties work together. Yes 3rd party TM owners can be beneficial, but objective usage guidelines go far
