Sourdough wowes. I killed "Morgan". After it tripled in size on day 4, I should have made the sourdough bread. Instead I continued discarding 1/2 & adding the flour/water mixture as directed & it never rose again. I threw it out, started over. I'm on day 5 without it rising. My house may to chilly!

Got out my sewing machine and stitched up a new rice bag using some leftover material filled with cheap white rice to replace my old very used bag. Ready to microwave and bring heat to my sore muscles.

Snowflakes are now accumulating on the deck railings and on a little spider web. ❄️

Temps are predicted to fall overnight to below freezing with possible snow flurries. I'm glad all my winter preparations are completed. The house plants are all moved indoors, rain gauge safe, deck furniture is cleaned & stored, plus my 5 ceiling fans are reversed. Coffee is now my choice of drink.

The promised paving has been completed going up the steep hill to my home. Plus I added my handpainted address to the pole where my circular drive begins. Hoping the delivery people stop giving me everyone else's packages, even though my address is posted in three other places!

I made this goodness this morn. After soaking the Black eyed peas over night, I added a ham hock, spices, onion & garlic. It's known as Hopin' John down south. Made from scratch, the Corn bread just came out of the oven made with shagbark hickory syrup, coconut oil & baked in a cast iron skillet.

Another 🎃 memory. My Dad rigged up a speaker hidden by an iron cauldron on a tripod containing dry ice & water so it billowed smoke. He sat in a dark room & would talk in a creepy voice to every child before they came to the door describing what they were wearing, scaring the begeezus out of them!

Thinking back to my childhood on Halloween night. I ventured out with friends into darkness carrying pillow cases for our stash of goodies while wandering miles through the neighborhood. My Mom made fresh deep fried still hot cinnamon/sugar donuts to pass out.1/3

I repotted my three Asparagus ferns (Asparagus densiflorus) into one Stoneware pot today from the outdoor hanging basket and brought them inside. I also took cuttings of the centered begonia to hopefully root.

I've put in two long days and now it's time to "wine" down on my back deck.

No Hen-of-the-woods for me this year. The property that I gathered from beneath the oaks has been sold, no permission as I do not know the owner and he sadly had that woods logged. These photos are from previous years when I gathered over 50#!

I'm on day six of the sourdough starter. Third day it tripled in size, reduced it as instructed (saving the discards) then it fell into a pancake mix consistency which I read is normal. 1/3

Tommy asked me to come to the O for a margarita on him and to see the owners dressed for Halloween. Kevin and Lisa always come up with something unique every year and don't reveal it until October 31! They never fail on impressing everyone!!

For #fungifriday and #fungifriends, this was my favorite nursery rhyme as a four year old, as my name is Joan and I always tagged along on fungi harvests with my "Daddy". No wonder I still hunt fungi with my Dad "in spirit".

Good Thursday morning. It's now 6:02 AM & 45° outside, with a dark pre-dawn sky. Today, my daily post features photographs of 4 necklaces I designed & made. The morel was carved from a deer antler, the copper feathers & oak leaves were made from fired copper clay, the arrow point is one I found.

Made some fried green tomatoes from the last of the small ones the deer didn't eat. I love these!

I just got home from paying my real estate taxes and filling a blessing box at our local library. It was empty! If you can do so, please donate easy to prepare food to your local food pantry or to blessing boxes.

Stretching my food for the increase costs of groceries that will surely be coming, I made tuna salad on a slice of artesian bread that was on clearance as it had a few spots of mold. Trimmed off those tiny mold spots & added the tuna salad that I added soy sauce to for the first time. So very good.

Here's a question for all of you. With the announcement of loss of EBT SNAP sales, won't small family owned grocery stores & large corporate grocery stores be loosing that incoming revenue? Will that loss be an incentive to pass those lost EBT sales onto consumers via increased food costs to all???
