Dredge is a wonderful, complete game. It starts fun and simple, maintains a good gameplay loop while slowly escalating difficulty and spookiness, keeps good pace on progression while it gets strange and dangerous, then brings the whole story back around to a satisfying conclusion. What a delight.

It's crazy that we have just had one of the best years for gaming, with AAA successes and a huge variety of indie smash hits, and big publishers decide that it's time to "reimagine the way games are made." This isn't just a "don't fix what ain't broken." It's a complete failure of vision.

Blue Prince has been very enjoyable. My largest concern was that the game would become frustrating before it became rewarding. I think that idea of frustration hangs over me still, but I have definitely felt rewarded.

Finally finished my lore board for Hollow Knight. Each picture and line placed as I played. Really happy with how the streams turned out. Radiance is truly an excellent fight.

I think I've been taking the 300 characters as a recommendation rather than a limit

I've been thinking about older games and the things they do that just wouldn't fly now. Like, Super Mario RPG having secret additional level up bonuses if you pick the right stat at the right level. I think modern gamers would dislike that. Both for forcing a certain build and because it's hidden.

This time I will fully complete Hollow Knight. I will not injure myself partway through Godhome and not come back to finish it after I have healed. I will beat Absolute Radiance and finally see all of the endings. My third try just means I'm better at the game and nothing else.

I worry about early access MMOs. The period of feedback must be invaluable, but what are the costs? That feeling of hopping into a fresh, new world where no one knows what is happening, there is no meta, and there aren't a million articles explaining every secret is such a beautiful and fragile time

The thing about water levels is that they aren't the same game. The controls you've been mastering and the physics you've come to expect are gone. Instead you get something different, something that hasn't gone through the rigorous testing and refinement of a primary game experience.
