Earlier this month we celebrated the graduation of our 2025-26 Coastal Leadership Institute cohort! Participants attended monthly field trips across Louisiana’s coast to highlight ecology, culture, industry and policy of the coast. It’s been a pleasure to spend the past 9 months with this group!

Volunteers joined us in Cameron Parish to plant 10,000 plugs of marsh grass! We planted in marsh east of Calcasieu Lake, on top of small islands & along marsh banks. As this native grass roots & grows, it will transform degraded marsh into wildlife habitat that will protect the area from erosion.

We had such a great day planting marsh grass in the Central Wetlands with so many awesome volunteers! We planted 3,500 plugs of grass, which will help restore the natural wetlands ecosystem while mitigating erosion by slowing wave action and accumulating sediment along the banks.

Last week, members of our Future Coastal Leaders cohort celebrated the end of their term.🐊🎊 We visited 3 Piers Seafood to learn about their sustainably sourced seafood. We then toured Bayou Des Allemands with Airboat Tours By Arthur, where we learned about native ecology & threats to habitat.

We visited the Pointe-au-Chien Oyster Shell Reef and was thrilled to see lots of new oysters growing! This reef was constructed in 2022-23 with the Pointe-au-Chien Indian Tribe. It covers 400 linear ft of shoreline with 200 tons of recycled shells to create habitat & mitigate erosion.

We are thrilled to welcome The Crustacean Club to the Oyster Shell Recycling Program!🦪✨ This newly opened restaurant is serving gulf seafood. Come enjoy their daily selection of fresh gulf oysters and rest assured that your shells will be returned to the water to help protect our coast!

We’re happy to report that the trees we planted last year in Maurepas Swamp are doing fantastic! Over the past 2 years, volunteers have helped us plant 3,000 trees along North Pass. We visited the panting site & were excited to see great survivability & growth rates of the trees planted last year.
