Our new paper asks how meritocracy becomes an affective apparatus, and how its promise of a good life turns into a form of “cruel optimism.” It is about ordinary people’s everyday crises, and the fragile ways they keep dignity, relation, and hope alive. For a real good life. I hope it resonates.
