A BIG thanks to Walker Industries! On Nov 10th, some Walker employees visited our nursery to help repot some of our trees using their AMAZING compost! LCN also held an educational presentation covering pollinators & tree ID. Thanks for braving the cold & for all your hard work! π³π

A big thanks to the Port Colborne homeschooled nature co-op who came out to our Re-Leaf nursery last Wed! These kids were a huge help with weeding & spreading mulch in our nursery! After all their hard work, they got to learn about native trees/shrubs and how to ID them. π³πΏ

LCN now has a pollinator garden in our ReLeaf nursery, with 12 native species so far! These gardens support pollinator populations of π¦, π, π¦ and πͺ² by providing food and habitat. By creating this space, these keystone species have a spot to refuel & rest before heading off for more pollination.

Are you planning an eco-friendly garden for 2026? Did you know you can start this Fall? Fall is a perfect time to plant your native wildflower seeds. By sowing prior to the first frost and before the ground freezes, your seeds will naturally stratify over winter and be ready to sprout in the spring!

Our Niagara Glen Bat Night was an exciting evening, with 30 big brown bats caught, multiple mist and harp nets deployed and plenty of hands-on learning for our incredible volunteers. We had some amazing (and very "batty") conversations about the important role bats play in our local ecosystems.

Eastern monarch butterfly population nearly doubled in 2025. This winter, monarchs occupied 4.42 acres of central Mexicoβs forest, up from 2.22 acres the previous year. The population remains well below the long-term average. You can help monarchs by planting milkweed and conserving their habitat!
