The systemic damage this fiscal inertia is creating is awful and deeply inhumane. The disconnect between the cost of legally protected provision and what schools are provided with to deliver, means children, their families and those who teach them ultimately pay the price.

Really pleased to have launched this today at
@ascl-uk.bsky.social
. Please do share/engage - we're hoping to build a national resource which shares examples of good practice that exist in the system.

This Special school leader agrees. My funding settlement is increasingly disconnected from the cost of safely & effectively providing what our pupils require. There is something deeply troubling both nationally & locally about placing legal requirements upon schools & then choosing not to fund them.

It great to see
@thenfer.bsky.social
shining a light on the recruitment and retention challenges in the Specialist sector. For too long Government policy on schools workforce matters has lacked consideration of the difficulties we face and how to address them.

Great to be at
@schoolsnortheast.bsky.social
last week to introduce the Inclusion Expert Advisory Group, which I'm pleased to be chairing. Reforming the SEND system is the most important area of focus for us in the next 5-10 years. Here's what I said in full.
