The good thing about reviewing papers is that you find new papers cited that you need to read. The bad thing about reviewing paper is.. that you find new papers cited that you need to read.

Dear Doctoral students, If you read a post - anywhere - saying you SHOULD do x, y or z - check with your supervisors. There are very large differences in fields - what works/is expected in one, may not work or be expected in another. The process is hard enough - don't buy in extra work or worry.

Those lists of 'the best books'? By whose definition? This is the sort of thing that annoys me (I apparently am having an annoyed day). A good book is a book one enjoys. Let's stop policing other people's reading and just, well, y'know, enjoy what we enjoy.
